| Will eats treats but not food My Yorkie has been with me for 3 days. He stopped eating his food yesterday afternoon. Will drink small amounts of water...but won't eat. His Foster Mom said to add 1 tablespoon of pure pumpkin on his food...1 time per day. It worked on the first day and the following morning. Now he won't eat food at all...no matter how its prepared. Yesterday he was watching me eat my table food and was obviously hungry. So I gently took him to his food bowl and encouraged him to eat. Instead he walked away. He came back and took a couple sips of water then went to his crate. I understand...his world has been turned upside down...with new people and new surroundings. So I watch him and I constantly reassure him by giving him lots of love and attention. We practiced our commands from obedience class today and I rewarded him with treats...he ate them with no problem. I'm just not sure if he's sick or if he needs more time to adjust. Should I be concerned? Or just have more patience?

| Congratulations on the new addition to your life, and thank you for rescuing. Try feeding him his food by hand. I hand fed Max his first year, and had to play games with him. 3 days isn't a long time. Be patient while he adjusts. Hide your anxiety about him eating. When not hand feeding his food, put it in dish and leave him alone. Have designated meal times. Announce happily when it is breakfast, lunch, and dinner, then serve happily and leave him alone. If he doesn't eat it after an hour or two, toss it. Don't expect him to eat stale food and mistake that for not eating. My boys hate stale food, not that they would leave any around that long. We use 5 pound resealable bags and the boys are really happy when the fresh bag gets opened. Don't get into the habit of feeding off your plate. You will encourage begging and he will never want his own food. Good luck!
