My pup has been having breathing issues since September which is also when ragweed blooming. took him to the vet end of September.... they said it was respiratory allergies, which I have never heard of in a dog. Benadryl 2-times a day... didn't seem to help all that much, but made very sedated and hyperactive.... still breathing issues... so I took him to another vet for a second opinion. They also said respiratory allergies and gave a list of antihistamines to try. Trying Zyrtec once a day and the past couple of days have been much better. Crazy!!

only allergies. he's definitely doing better than he was. He seems to do better on the Benadryl but it makes him really Zombie(ish).... He's been on the Zyrtec for several days now, which doesn't do as good a job but doesn't make him as Zombie(ish).

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | After decades of over-vaccinating dogs, allergies in dogs are staggering! They're super common now, sadly. Benadryl almost never does a thing. Claritin and Zyrtec rarely work, but sometimes can. If/when allergies are bad, you then truly need to consider prescription level options like Temaril-P, Atopica, Apoquel, steroid. Read this whole thread - tells you more about this: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html
