Question about the protein in Innova Evo - Page 3 - YorkieTalk.com Forums

I recently switched Gucci from Eukanuba to Innova Evo, but now I am confused reading this forum. I am seriously thinking of putting her back on the Eukanuba she had no problem with that brand. Gucci is a picky eater as most yorkies are she not crazy about the Innova Evo, either.. Now I am thinking what to do.

the evo is fine, it's all highly digestible protein, unlike poor quality foods, and the big advantage is that it is grain free.

dogs evolved as carnivorous animals and their digestive tract is designed to utilize primarily meat and fat, not carbohydrates.

things are different if a dog already suffers from liver disease, and a specialized diet may be necessary, but for that i'd have the dog thoroughly checked by a vet.

another misconception that is still floating around is that a food with a high protein content causes kidney damage. this goes back to research that has been declared as outdated quite some time ago. as long as quality protein is used (which is easily digestible), there is no problem,

it is true that the amount of water dogs have to drink to compensate must be taken into consideration. some dogs simply do not drink enough.

that is why i am a huge advocate of always adding water to kibble and not feed it dry in large amounts, regardless if it is evo or not.

as always, not every food is ideal for every dog and she might find that regular innova adult (which comes as a "small bites" variety btw ) might work out better.

My picky eater, Kia, loves Artemis Small Breed Adult. It is 29% crude protein, 18% crude fat, 2.2% crude fiber. (less poop in the yard.)

Chicken, Turkey, Chicken Meal, Turkey Meal, Lamb Meal, Brown Rice, Pearled Barley are the first 8 ingredients, and the company does not do any animal testing, they are cruelty-free.

Meat proteins are more digestible than plant proteins, and I think it is a good alternative to Evo for pets. Rice is the most usable form of carbohydrate.

While Evo contains all "usable" proteins, I still question whether pets can assimilate that high of a protein, or will they excrete it, thus, making their liver and kidneys work all that much harder.

This is just my opinion, not meant to criticize anyone else's.

We each have to make decisions based on what our particular dogs need.

I went out and bought Innova the other day because everyone thought it was so good. Now I am confused , I bought the plain Innova not the Evo Innova. Now I know a lot that are on right now are talking about the EVo Innova but does anyone use the plain Innova. Is it not the better one to buy if the other has so much protein.

The plain Innova is fine for your Yorkie. The Evo is the one with 42% protein.

We got our sample of Innova in the mail and my picky eater just loved it. So we were online last night ordering it. Would be just my luck he changes his mind when it comes. Here's crossing my fingers...

Maybe try just the regular Innova.

I agreed. The protein content in Innova Evo seems too high to me. I read a lot of books about Yorkie and they can't handle high protein - even if the Yorkie does not have liver problems. It would make their liver work too hard and eventually lead to liver problem.

My vet also said that anytime you switch dog foods you should do it slowly by mixing in a little of the new food with the old and then gradually increasing the amount over time. She said with any dog food if you don't do this they will have bad reactions to the new food.

We've had trial and error as far as choosing the correct dry dog food for both our dogs. We've been through about 5 brands now.

Currently, Missy is eating Innova Puppu and Muffie is eating Innova Senior. I hope we can stick with this one now!

The vet at the Purina Animal Food Company - E-mailed me that dogs can eat all the protein they want - as long as they are not overweight. But - he said if your pet is overweight - you need to change it to a food with less protein.

What if we mix Innova Evo with another dry food? After reading some of the posts I thought I would re-introduce Eukanuba in to the Evo diet my boy is currently on. Is this dangerous? Ever since my boy has been eating Evo his poop is solid but slightly green in colour and it seems like he is farting a bit!

They have Innova PUPPY. Also, there is Innova ALL STAGES for ANY age and there's Innova SENIOR. Personally, I wouldn't go back to Eukanuba because Innova is a super premium food. It's a much better dog food. lol

I agree with Muffie's Mom. Try mixing it with the Innova adult.
