Maddie's sick My little Maddie has a bacterial infection in her stomach/intestines. It started out with diarrhea and then I was to give her pepto bismol and boiled hamburger and white rice, which helped a bit, but yesterday she started vomiting bright yellow liquid and her stools were full of mucous. The vet did the tests for parasites and that turned up negative. I was glad about that, but he said at least if it was that, we would know why she got it and treat it. She is now on a medicine and special canned food and hopefully that will get her back to par, but I guess I worry so much about her and her stomach has been touchy all along. Even when she is feeling good, her tummy will make these loud gurgly, squeaky sounds. The vet says she has colitis and I hope she doesn't hurt from that...I used to have that very bad and the pain was unbearable. Maddie doesn't seem to be in a lot of pain, but I've heard dogs are good at hiding their pain. Maddie will be 6 months next week and I have an appointment to have her spayed on April 6th and I will cancel that appointment if she isn't well and healthy by then. Does anyone here have colitis problems with their babies? Any suggestions? She's also a very picky eater...but loves the special food the vet sent home for her. She sure sleeps a lot since coming down with this. I have to work all day tomorrow and hate leaving her, but will come home at noon to check on her. My poor little sweetie.

My Luigi had almost all of the same symptoms as Maddie when we 1st brought him home from the breeders. It was more scary and painful for me than for him, I think. My vet too chacked for all kinds of parasites and bacteria and viruses and everything came back neg. Thank goodness. She even checked for that colitis, but came back neg also. Except he had a little bacteria in his poopoo. He was also put on prescription food for awhile, and after all that testing and 2 night hospital stay, they still didn't know what it was for sure. Every now and then his tummy makes that scary sound, so I give him 1/4 of a pepsid pill. So I guess what I am trying to say, is at least they know what it is and more of a chance to make her all better!!!! Which I will be hoping and praying for!!!! Since it sounds like she will have a very sensitive tummy, I would make sure she only gets puppy food and no human food. My vet told me the most simplist things can give them an upset tummy. Please keep us posted on how she is doing!!!!! Luigi sends Maddie lots of puppy kisses!!!!

Thank you so much, Aimee and Miezzi! Maddie seems a little better today and even wanted to chase her ball for a while. She seems to tire out quite fast, but the medication is probably making her tired too. Thanks so much for the "Pepcid" suggestion! I always have them on hand and will try that when her tummy starts gurgling. Maddie does eat only puppy food...though she's very picky with it. I get tempted to give her people snacks, but I know it's best for her that I don't. Anyway, thanks again...Maddie sends you and your furbabies puppy kisses!

| Im sorry Maddie isn't feeling too well. I am not familar with colitis but I think it is a very smart choice of yours to cancel her spay appt. if she isn't 100% yet. Hope she feels better soon and Schatzie sends puppy hugs her way.

Tagamet for doggies Ask your vet about an ant acid for dogs. When Benni go ahold of the Ibuprofen he had to take it to provent an ulcer from the OD of meds. He took it for three weeks and is fine now.
