| Hi Ladyjane.... Cody did turn out to be beautiful...I hope you kept him he was to gorgeous to let go, lol. GiGi's hair on the back of her ears I guess look like Cody's cause some of the hair is short and I did not cut it that short....I did chop the longer hairs off so that the coconut oil didn't get all over her. It looks as if her back ears hairs are growing....the hair is silky as the rest of her body and the black is really hard to tell if it is part of the discoloration on the front part of her ears. So I think what I am dealing with is the nose and the front of the ear which is hairless and should be. I know you know certain stuff that I am stating but just want to explain myself well. So as far as I have seen in treating GiGi's ears "nothing comes off on the cotton from the inside of the ear or the outside (where the hair is) of the ear. My question is being that most of the problem that "I see" (cause there can be a prob that I don't see) do you think the vinegar and water will work? I would like to start a treatment for her today that I can stick with. If I use the 50/50 white vinegar and water should I put anything else on her ears afterwards. The Vet did say that I can continue the coconut oil but I would guess that he would approve to the vinegar and water as well. Btw are we using the vinegar and water 2X's per day? Thanks again in advance for reading and commenting. Hugs tina

| Hi Ladyjane.... Just read one of your previous posts.....now I see that you used the rinse 3X per week after bathing is that what should be done. So just use the rinse once after bathing and bathe her 3X per week. Is that about right. or is everyday better? I know I al all over the place with this but I just don't want to irritate her ears. thanks

| I would only apply to her ears. You don't really have to bathe her that much. Cody was covered! He was a real hot mess. I adopted Cody. He went to Rainbow Bridge in 2009 due to renal failure.

)sorry to hear about Cody...how long did you have him. I am sure he is greatly missed. I still call GiGi , Pucci sometimes.....I guess we will never forget them. I believe that when I start to cry over Pucci it's because he is at the bridge and he stopped playing for a while to bark for me to come to him and talk to him and let him know that I am also thinking of him. Just like he did when he was on earth with us. Thanks for your help again with the ears. hugs tina

I would say 3 or 4 times/week. Honestly, it would not hurt to do more often. Just put it on a cotton ball and dab it on. Once/day should be enough. Yes, it is very sad to lose them. I adopted Cody when he was 8 and he lived just short of his 13th birthday.

Just a bit of info I came across while searching out info on my dog's and (seems to be) other's dogs who have contracted dark or black skin on ears or other areas. There is a condition called Alopecia X that affects mostly certain breeds (toys are one) more so than others but it can and does affect all breads. It starts out as a small dark area with hair loss on the black area. It can continue to spread. At this time there is no know reason why this happens but in the worst cases the dog eventfully looses all their hair. But this is no health problem to the dog and as it says in the article the pet owner (while not happy when it started) ends up loving the new style of their hairless pet and of course continues to love the dog for life as usual. It is noted in the article that it is a cosmetic condition. There are some things that can be done but they seem extensive and they don't always work or last. So I would guess the dog's age would be taken into account. The Vet I went to said pretty much the same thing to me that it was a cosmetic condition and that he would not prescribe anything unless the dog was in pain or some other discomfort. So I am going to guess he knows what he is talking about....although we still do not know to what extent this will affect GiGi or if it is what we are reading here. Well I can say very truthfully if hair loss is GiGi only problem from this I WILL still lover the way she is and I will still buy her pretty dresses etc. Well we still have to see how things go and for some reason I think the solution I am using with the vinegar and water will help. Don't know why maybe it was just hopeful thinking but when I put it in her today it looked a little (tinsey bit) different in some way. I will give it some time to see. Just thought this article might be interesting . Hugs tina

Sunny D passed in 2103 after a battle with severe renal failure. It was very difficult losing him. He was such a happy boy.

| As LJ said the vinegar is wonderful & isn't prone to burn or irritate the skin like many prescription ointments & cleaners . Vinegar is excellent for both Fungal & Bacterial infection so it should work either way, just be careful not to get it in the eyes. |

This is day 3 of the solution....GiGi was being a bad girl today...rubbing her ears in the throw on the couch. The solution was on her for at least 5min so I think it probably dried before she rubbed it off. I am going to wait for about 7 days before I up load a comparative pic to see if there is any difference. Talk to you soon.... hugs tina

| My Yorkie had a similar looking stuff on his belly. The vet said it was probably due to moisture and to just keep it clean. I found a recommendation to wipe it with a diluted solution of Povidone Iodine on a cotton ball. The povidone iodine cleared it up. A Simple Remedy to Treat Dog Skin Infection |
