Just a bit of info I came across while searching out info on my dog's and (seems to be) other's dogs who have contracted dark or black skin on ears or other areas. There is a condition called Alopecia X that affects mostly certain breeds (toys are one) more so than others but it can and does affect all breads. It starts out as a small dark area with hair loss on the black area. It can continue to spread. At this time there is no know reason why this happens but in the worst cases the dog eventfully looses all their hair. But this is no health problem to the dog and as it says in the article the pet owner (while not happy when it started) ends up loving the new style of their hairless pet and of course continues to love the dog for life as usual.
It is noted in the article that it is a cosmetic condition. There are some things that can be done but they seem extensive and they don't always work or last. So I would guess the dog's age would be taken into account.
The Vet I went to said pretty much the same thing to me that it was a cosmetic condition and that he would not prescribe anything unless the dog was in pain or some other discomfort. So I am going to guess he knows what he is talking about....although we still do not know to what extent this will affect GiGi or if it is what we are reading here. Well I can say very truthfully if hair loss is GiGi only problem from this
I WILL still lover the way she is and I will still buy her pretty dresses etc.
Well we still have to see how things go and for some reason I think the solution I am using with the vinegar and water will help. Don't know why maybe it was just hopeful thinking but when I put it in her today it looked a little (tinsey bit) different in some way. I will give it some time to see.
