Tick and Flea for new puppies... HELP!

Hello,
I am picking up a brand new puppy. He is 1LB 8OZ and going to be 9 weeks on Sunday. When do you start giving him tick and flea medications? If anyone has any advice please let me know.

We started our Bella on Revolution, which is available in smaller doses for dogs under five pounds. Revolution prevents heartworms, fleas, dog ticks, and worms. It is applied topically on the back of the neck, and each treatment lasts a month. We started Bella on it right after her first vet wellness checkup at about 9 weeks. Please take your puppy to the vet as soon as possible after you pick it up for a wellness checkup, and ask the vet for their recommendations.

Ok Will do! I am picking him up tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon and then he has his vet check on Friday at 4:50PM.... So within 24 hours he will be vet checked by my vet. I will ask the vet about it...


So when you apply it topically on the back of their neck then you just keep track and apply it monthly... correct?

Yes, that's right. If your vet says it is okay, you might want to start the medication on the first of next month to make it easier to remember. Either that, or mark your calendar. After you apply it, it takes five or ten minutes to dry, and your dog will feel itchy as it dries. (We hold and pet Bella as it is drying.) You should wait at least 48 hours after application before you bathe your dog, just to be sure that the medication is absorbed into the skin. Other than being itchy for a few minutes after application, Bella didn't have any side effects.
