Transition When should you start to transition your puppy to dry food? Daisy is 6/7 weeks old and she is finally starting to get teeth. I was wondering when I should start introducing dry food to her? Obviously will be mixed with something to get her started. Thanks

PLEASE remember this is an under aged enfant you have....should still be on mother's milk from momma dog, with the introduction of puppy food slowly starting around 4-5 weeks old....I usually start mine on a pablum mixture of milk formula and mixed with canned puppy food just to introduce them to something other than momma's milk. Most of your baby's nutrition SHOULD be coming from momma at this age. You should be feeding this baby a high quality puppy food....preferably a canned, easily digestible formula....if you are going with a kibble, soften it into mush consistency with warm formula....please remember you were taken advantage of by someone that dumped an immature baby dog on you...this puppy SHOULD still be nursing for 90% of its nourishment! Feed this baby MUSH! Either canned puppy formula food, or puppy food that has been dissolved into a mush....pablum consistency food for the STILL developing internal system....TEETH are just a very small portion of the required implements necessary to process food into usable nutrition for an enfant.....forget the teeth!!! You are trying to supply nutrition in a highly digestible form that this underage baby can process in it's immature digestive tract....dont make it any more difficult for this baby! Feed mush! Mushed up puppy blend dog food, preferably from a can! It should be mixed with a puppy formula milk, to compensate for the milk it has been deprived of from momma. As the puppy gets older.....10 weeks old....you start to feed straight canned puppy food (RC calls this "Starter Mousse").....as the baby gets to 12 weeks old, you are feeding a quality puppy kibble that is formulated especially for puppies (RC calls this formula "Babydog")....it will be "hard" kibble, but it will be softer than what you feed to a youngster....when the baby is 14-16 weeks old, advance to kibble.....RC calls this mini puppy)....puppy stays on this formula until a year old. Your baby is an exception to the rule, that is, you are dealing with a baby that was deprived of mother's milk all this time...you must supplement this deprivation through an excellent quality puppy milk, that you then use to soften up canned puppy specific food, so it is like a thick soup....then you start progressing to more complex formulas .....remember, you are jumping WAY ahead of what this baby can adequately digest to provide the necessary building blocks to ensure this baby develops organs and a system that is the best it can/should/was meant to be! The mere appearance of teeth in this baby's mouth is nothing to even concern yourself with! You are trying to provide proper and adequate nutrition to developing organs and cells on the inside of this baby! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 02-09-2016 at 02:41 PM.

I got the starter mousse and Daisy shakes tremendously when eating it. So much that is scares me to even give it to her. She just became interested in canned food kinda. When I crush up the puppy dry food and mix it with the formula, she wants nothing to do with it. She will smell it and simply walk away from it. I give her straight formula and she gobbles it all down. I give her crushed up puppy dry food mixed with warm water and she eats all of it. It is mush completely. Should I just keep rotating it? Give her formula for one meal and then the crushed up puppy food with warm water next than back to formula? This way I know she is getting her nutrition that is needed? She poops through out the day 2 - 3 times and urinates as needed. She even drinks water when she is thirsty. Last edited by Daisy Dukes; 02-09-2016 at 02:52 PM.

Great on the straight formula! Keep doing that....she NEEDS that formula! Mush and warm water, OK....she needs that mush and the water doesnt hurt at all.....maybe try to SLOWLY put just a dab of the crushed up puppy food in her warm milk formula....she may drink it with just a tad little dog food mixed in....if she goes for that try to SLOWLY increase the amount of crushed puppy kibble into the warm formula....she will hopefully take to that...but if she doesnt, just keep doing what you are doing....good job! You may even try to dilute the mousse in water or milk formula and put that over the pulverized kibble....that mousse is soooooo good for her, it is a really great thing if you can get her toenjoy that....if she is shaking when she eats it, she is enjoying it so much!! Did you heat it up just a little before you gave it to her? You are doing great with the "Green Weenie Situation" some dumba-- forced off onto you! | I'm definitely really trying with her. I just mixed canned food with half of her formula and she is eating it without shaking! It was not the starter mousse but I am going to try it again mixed with the formula. The formula is esbilac. I did a teaspoon of canned food and a half teaspoon of formula with two teaspoons of warm water mixed all together, which seems to be enough for a meal. Since she ate 90% of it. If there is anything else I can get for her would be a huge help. I'm trying my best with her and showing her a lot of affection |

Daisy ate all the food! Starter Mousse (1 teaspoon), half of teaspoon of her formula, and two teaspoons of warm water Should I try giving her a full teaspoon formula? Or should I stick to what I'm doing?
