| Help, Diva is at it again!!! Well, here I am again. Diva has once again scratched the paint off and dug into the dry wall in our family room. This is not the same wall that she damaged before!! Every time she does this (5 times) it is always a different wall and we are at our wits end. Today it happened so fast that it was truly amazing. I thought that I was seeing things when I walked into the room and saw the hole in the wall. My husband and I are very discouraged. Diva has been doing so well otherwise. The weather here in Ohio has been great, and we have been going outside alot. She has been enjoying the outdoors as much as we have. We we were looking forward to traveling with her and having a wonderful summer with our Diva but I really don't know if we will be able to keep her if her tendency to dig into the walls continue. Maybe I am writing too soon after this happened. I hope that after my hurt and confusion subsides, I will think differently. I love my puppy very much but I feel as though I can't control this tendency that she has. I don't think that I could keep her crated all day, everyday. She has pretty much had the run of the house since we brought her home. The only times that she is confined is at night and when we have to leave her at home alone and this is not confinement to a crate but rather to an area off the kitchen which leads to a half bath. Please, if there is someone who is out there that can help me understand this behavior and how to change or avoid it, please let me know. If I have to part with my puppy I will be very, very, very sad. Thanks for all of your help. I think that this is a wonderful forum and the Yorkie Talkers are fantastic. Diva's Mom |

| I wonder if she has a vitamin deficiency that is causing her to do this? I'd ask my vet. If not, try the bitter green apple spray. I've heard that works well, but thankfully have never had to use it. Are you putting her in time out when she does this? |

| I know this is going to sound insane but have you considered a pet behaviorist (psychatrist). If it is a behavior problem, they could help you. First I would check with my vet and ask for advice or even a referral.

| How old is she? I would use the bitter apple stuff. I have that and it does work. May I ask how she is able to dig a whole in the wall? I know its dry wall, but does it have plaster on top off it besides just paint? I know Cordelia gets in her digging mode, but she usually does it on her bed. I don't know if you would be willing to try this, but they do have stuff for cats that is sticky like tape. I know cats don't like sticky stuff on their paws. I really don't see why this would be different with dogs. Here is what we use on our furniture. You may need to check and see if it is safe to put on walls. http://www.petco.com/assets/product_...288629241B.jpgSticky Paws

| Thanks for answering, ennsor. We will ask the vet about a possible vitamin deficiency when we see him which will be soon. We have used the bitter apple spray after Diva has done the deed and it seems to work because she never goes back to the same spot but the problem is trying to guess which wall she will target next, which is next to impossible to determine. Yes, we do put her in time-out every time she does it. She seems to know that she has done something wrong and will get very quiet even before we discover just what it is that she has done. | This might be another crazy suggestion but what about putting on boots when she is not confined. The good kind that they can't get off. They don't like them at first but it might be worth a try until you figure out how to get her to stop.

| its funny the things dogs decide to destroy isnt it?......... my last dog didnt make her way through the wall........ but she did EAT her way THROUGH THE FLOOR!!! We were all surprised about that one I think the "booties" is a great suggestion, the bitter apple thing is good but only if they are CHEWING the hole, otherwise the bitterapple spray will make the dog scratch at where you sprayed it specifically because it tasts bad and they want to get rid of it.... |

| We have been doing some remodeling in our home. We pulled up all the base boards so that sheet rock is showing at the bottom of the wall. All of our dogs love to dig at it and try to eat it. I don't know why they like it! All I can suggest is limit her area during the day. Could you put up a pen that keeps her away from the walls? She might just be bored and that is how she is passing the time away. |

| I don't know what to try myself; Sydnee seems to like sour apples and has managed to chew a corner of my wood desk, the wicker just pick a piece in the house and its chewed. so thanks for putting this thread up Diva's Mom at least now I can try those furniture thingies, with my luck though she is the reincarnation of escape artist and will be able to get out of that sticky situation.

| I cant beleive someone else is having this problem,I would have loved to have found someone going through this all those months ago when Jess was eating my wall! lol.We got her when she was 8 weeks old and a few days after having her we started to find holes in the walls all over the house As they were at floor level,I imagined it was my kids..after all,who could ever imagine that such an inocent looking puppy would do such a thing?? After she was 12 weeks old,she was able to get up onto the couch, and then suddenly the holes in the walls were higher...thats when I realised it was Jess. She would dig through the paint, then eat the plaster underneath,I was so confused! Anyway,we mentioned this to the vet,he gave her a vitamin suppliment and the wall eating stopped I wish I had realised it was her before she made my living room look like swiss cheese..we are still finding old holes behind furniture all these months later |

| Termite rang a bell!!!! I recently saw something on TV about exterminators using dogs which could detect termites!? Can't remember the breed [probably doesn't matter], but it probably sounds ridiculous but is it possible there is some kind of "pest" that your baby is detecting in your wall? Anyway ... just a thought!

| When she was young , Zsa Zsa used to do that . My vet recommended a bottle of dog repellent from Hagen . I used it and It made her sneeze enough , she never touched a wall . May sound horrible but It work well for her . |
