| 7 year old Yorkie with itchy smelly skin issues I have a rescue 7 year old Yorkie with itchy smelly skin issues all over his big body. He is a large boy (22) pounds. Over vet said it is most likely his food. I have tried several different brands with no change. His belly has a black discoloration in patches all over and also his back and chest.Any ideas as what to put on him and do you think my other 2 Yorkie rescues will get it? Has your Yorkie been tested by vet via skin scraping? To see if it's yeast or bacterial or both or whatever is happening there? It sounds like yeast to me, it's us accompanied by itchiness & it smells stinky. I used to have a very yeasty dog, she's doing great now, yeast free. Yeasty dogs do not do well w/carbs in their diet. You need to eliminate all sugary foods bc that is food for the yeast. No grains, potatoes, no treats containing molasses etc. Here's a great informational vid by Dr. Becker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gl_X1I1GJ1Q

| Hi - I hope your little guy feels better soon! For the symptoms have you tried a shampoo like Neutrogena TGel? My girl has very dry itchy skin and had an awful smell, but using TGel helped dramatically! I was advised to give her one cooked egg per week for her coat. I don't know if this contributed, but she loves her weekly egg! Good luck! |
