| How to feed? Hi guys, Just a quick one really I feed my dog Coco royal canin-shes awfully fussy and its one of the few things she will eat. I follow the guidelines on the bag so she gets about 60g of food a day but it doesn't seem much. I feed her 20g at about 7.30, 1 and 6. So my question is really am I feeding her enough? And if so are these times the best times so she won't be hungry? Or should I give her more or less at times to keep her less hungry? Thanks in advance |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | That's about 2oz of food per day, which isn't abnormal. My 2 4-pounder kiddos eat about 2oz a day too. How much does yours weigh? It's always good to start w/ a recommended amount, and from there feed to body condition.

| I feed my adult Yorkies 3 times a day. Every dog is different in terms of what works best for them. There is a poll in the polling section of this forum about how many times a day people feed their dogs and the answers are varied. Some dogs are not morning eaters and prefer only one big meal in the evening. My boys are larger -- 9+ pounds -- and they eat 1/4 cup x 3 meals. If the online conversions are right, that is 85 grams at each meal. The food I feed is less concentrated than Royal Canin though. If I used RC, the boys would get less than that. As Wylie's Mom indicated, go by your dog's appearance. If her weight looks good and if she seems hungry, you can add a little more. We give good behavior rewards throughout the day, so I know my dogs are getting more.

| I free feed RC.....and everyone but one is within recommended weight limits. I routinely drill down and REALLY observe how much each dog is eating and compare it to weights of each dog....it comes out to 1/3 up to 1/2 cup a day, maybe up to almost 3/4 cup a day during the summer when we are swimming and playing in sprinklers and all those summer activities we do in the back yard.......everyone is filled out nicely, boundless energy, healthy, not hungry....except my Kara, who is my over weight one....she needs regulating much more closely, and it kills me....I have a REAL aversion in my heart for hungry animals! I have had a weight issue my entire life and have lived my entire life "on a diet", desperate to stay on an even keel and healthy weight, so I know how my little Kara feels!! (I forgot to add I have two huge yorkies...these two boys are fed 3/4 - 1 cup a day, but they are soooooo active, they carry their weight well.) |
