| Help with Antibiotics please Well it seems that my little baby has kennel cough from the shelter we got her at. Vet gave us antibiotics to give to her and the first day went ok, this mornings dose went ok but this evening ... I tried everything and just could not get it down her at all! She turned her nose up at bread, ham, peanut butter, jelly, cheese. She was a ball of energy when hubs came home around 8pm but conked out soon after and is very sleepy. First time I've seen her this sleepy. She weighs a little over 8lbs now (about 8 months old) and has only drank about 4 ounces of water today and only eaten about 1/2 cup of food. She hasn't eaten tons or drank a lot since we brought her home, about 3 days ago. Could the antibiotics be causing her loss of interest in food and water? Thanks to anyone who replies . . . I'm beginning to get worried about her. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Sure, any med can make the tummy feel a little off, so this could be teh case. Try sprinkling some Parmesan cheese on the food. If your kiddo refuses the pill, you'll then have to resort to forcing it down her throat...

| Thanks, was afraid that might be the case. Tried forcing, she just keeps spitting it out lol. Stubborn little girl! Going to call the vet Monday and see if a liquid form might be available. |

| My puppy will not eat if something is upsetting her tummy. I'd give your dog some probiotics - I bought mine from Petsmart but vets have one that is stronger called Fotiflora made by Purina and it tastes good my dog loved it even when she didn't want to eat anything else. I would also add a little bit of pumpkin - pure pumpkin with nothing else, no spices NOTHING on it. And then feed her small meals throughout the day... I would probably force feed wet food through a syringe if she doesn't want to eat!! Food is necessary! I wish you luck and I'll keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Yorkie Yakker | My little guy was recently put on antibiotics. I began to notice that he wasn't eating his kibbles soon after. I got worried so I decided to switch him over to soft food for the time being. He ate everything in sight. So I think you should try giving your little girl soft food and see if she'll take it. |
