Skin issue, staph, parasite, or something else?

It looks like a bacterial infection to me too. If it is itchy, I have found that the Duoxo Calm shampoo (avail on amazon) works pretty well.

I know this is an old post. I found it by search. My baby has this very same thing. We have been to two different vets. The treatment was different at each vet. First was medicated shampoos. I have to buy these huge , expensive bottles just to find they have absolutely no effect. I have tried three different ones they have sold to me. Then she was given antibiotics to no avail.

I should maybe mention we are in a new area and are across the country form he regular vet. It is difficult in a new area, finding the right fit in a vet.

I wanted to specifically ask you about the Convenia injection. Did you have any adverse effects with this? I have done some reading and it sort of scares me a bit since she is ten, now.

I have never had a problem with Convenia. I have used it many times with different pups of various sizes.

Has either vet done skin scrapings? Sometimes you have to get cultures done in order to get the right antibiotic. I had that happen a few months ago and ended up the pup had a resistant infection. They also advised medicated baths...there is a shampoo with 4% chlorhexidine that really helps. Another thing that is being used by the dermatologists is a very dilute bleach and water solution sprayed on. I think it is a tablespoon (maybe 2) to a gallon of water.

If there is a true staph infection (called "pyoderma" in dogs, caused by staph intermedius)...you do need antibiotics for it -- but what antibiotics were given previously I wonder....?

We always do Simplicef x 30 days when Wylie has one of his recurrent infections.

Without seeing it, really have no clue...? Could be a freckle, mole, inflammation...?
