I don't think we should try to guess or speculate on who wanted the article posted, not even in private or to ourselves--it's not fair to anyone. Well said - how-ever my large dogs do not give playfull nibbles in point of fact in my house nibbles are never allowed. Nor is my Yorkie allowed nibbles on human flesh.

AND, people swear by IVORY soap under the MATTRESS. I'm not sure why the particular brand but when I conducted polysomnography on patients with RLS, IVORY soap was the best soap for increased brain activity in the areas associated with euphoria/love i.e. the dorsolateral middle frontal gyrus and the anterior cingulate in addition to an increase in dopamine and oxytocin levels.


SO, how these are all interrelated is still under investigation and only the person and their bar of soap know for sure!

This is utterly fascinating! Wonder why Ivory soap, in particular? I got curious and googled RLS and soap and was astounded by what I read. Lots of people online really believe in the "soap cure! If I slept with Ivory soap(!), could it possibly increase my dopamine/oxytocin levels or does it only work on the levels of patients with RLS?

BTW, how were the actual dopamine and oxytocin levels determined/monitored during the polysomnography? And, I realize this is off topic, but did you have to attach, detach all those electrodes and wires yourself, Misty?

I found one scholarly article on the use of soap to treat RLS and fibromyalgia here. The author seems to think that it is the scent of the soap that matters, and he developed a skin patch with soap scent:

I didn't have to attach and detach the wires, myself, no! haha


The oxytocin was measured in the urine before and after the sleep period and dopamine was measured (using the same intervals) by Positron Emission Tomography (PET).


It was fascinating! I am currently in talks for a doctorate position in behavioral neuroscience so I'll send you some studies if you're interested in that kind of thing! We are looking at addiction in rats, at the minute.

I read that in my RLS and soap Google search! Amazing that a thing like scent could possibly have those results in some. There were pages on Google on this soap/RLS thing!

I've had some awful leg cramps after long days and used to have RLS almost every January and even now after a long day my legs will cramp/hurt & legs feel restless at times. Going to try a bar of soap(!) under the sheets myself - believe it or not. Even if it's just placebo effect, if it would help, why not - lol.
