| blood in stool Observed what now appears to be blood in our 3 year old male Yorkie's stool for three days consecutively. He is behaving normally with same playful demeanor and doesn't appear in pain. No tender areas when my husband pressed around on his belly. No changes to his diet, water intake, treats or anything else. No indication Torrey chewed up anything he should not have that would be tearing him up inside. His bowel movements don't appear strained and he is going as routinely as always. We will call his vet tomorrow morning and will take his most recent bowel movement to vet's office for analysis. Has anybody had bloody stool issues with their Yorkie? |

| Sometimes they can have bloody stools with no other issues if it keeps up you need to go to the vet but I wouldn't go to the vet over one issue of it

| I would call your vet. When Rosie had bloody stool she had to have antibiotics. Especially since it has been three days. It could be nothing but check with your vet to be safe.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I'm assuming this is frank bright red blood, correct? Not black and tarry? If bright red, it means there is irritation in the lower tract, possibly from something eaten. Since you're going to the vet, try to save a stool sample ahead of time in a little plastic bag so they can see what's going on and what you're seeing at home. In all likelihood, it's nothing or something just minor. Did you change foods or treats or anything?

| Blood in stool followup Day 5-blood in stool again this morning. Spoke with Torrey's vet by phone. He stated T may have colitis and suggested trying 1 T of canned pumpkin twice daily for 2-3 days as good fiber source he will like. Glad we have a natural remedy to try first. If pumpkin doesn't work, we'll try a med. |

Please let us know how the vet visit goes. 5 days of blood in stool is very concerning.

| IMO, he needs to been seen by the vet. It could be any number of things from something he has eaten that is irritating the bowel, colitis etc. A few years back, Bubba had blood in his stool that progressed to HGE (hemoragatic gastroenteritis) before the vet got a handle on it. They never did find out the cause. At first they thought he may have been poisoned but other than my house they are never anywhere out of my sight. I hope you get an appointment with your vet.

| 3 days blood in stool, if that were my pup on day one we would have been at the vet with the stool sample, but that's me. I know for my dog what is normal, blood in stool for my door is not normal. Better to catch a possible illness in the beginning then waiting 3 days possibility making what could be a minor thing into a major issue. But, like I said, this is just me. Hope all turns out well for your baby.

| I agree with others. I'm surprised your vet didn't say to come in. Please update and let us know.

Turbo had an episode where there was no mucus but he had all the other symptoms: straining to go & very often, bight red blood & he was also vomiting, not a lot, once or twice. He still had a good appetite, wanted to eat. Took him to the vet & he gave him cerenia (anti nausea) shot, anti-diarrhea shot & some metronidazole pills. Today is day 2 on Met & he had perfect poopies this morning. Vet thinks it's stress colitis, from the thunderstorm we had last week but he could have also eaten something he's not supposed to....like from the cherry tomato plant we have in the backyard. Turbo shows interest in that plant whenever he's back there, so I've trimmed it up on the bottom & fenced it in better & watching them like a hawk.
