| ![]() Hello ![]() So we are expecting our new addition next week!! I'll post pics soon of the lil boy! I'm sure they're plenty of threads of what to feed your new puppy but I'm not so great navigating the site just yet. Can anyone send me links to threads and/ or what they suggest to feed their new pup? I will continue to feed the lil one what the breeder has been giving him but as soon as we get to the vet, I would like to SLOWLY introduce a food that has been given the green light by one of YOU Yorkie Moms/Dads! Also, I know to introduce the new food slowly but never had a such a small dog (he's charting to be 5-6lbs) so I'm a little worried about hypoglycemia, etc. Could anyone instruct me on how to introduce new food once I pick one, pls? I LOVE this site already! I'm really looking forward to getting to know y'all and your pups! Thank you in advance and I really appreciate it! ~Ray Newbie to Yorkies Male Yorkie pup (name unsure of until he comes home!) |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() Hi Ray - welcome to YT ![]() For changing foods in new puppies, it's usually suggested to wait a good 2-3 weeks so they can settle. Then maybe just add a bit of the new kibble to the old, like perhaps 10% or whatnot, then wait a few days before continuing to add a bit more and so on. I feed frozen pre-made raw and have for about 7 years now - I feed either Primal or Natures Variety. If you're looking for kibble suggestions, I think some good ones are Natures Logic, Solid Gold Barking At The Moon, Solid Gold Wee Bits (a small kibble, which is nice!), Natures Variety, Acana, Wellness CORE...

I noticed someone else mentioning I should wait months but I'm not crazy about the food he's on at the moment and would love to (gradually as recommended) change it! I will def look in to Primal or Natures Variety. Luckily I life right next to a city that's very health oriented and have boutiques for pups that should sell both! I LOVE this site but SOOOO much info that it can be a little overwhelming! I know the basics for a puppy such as crating, puppy proofing, poisonous plants & foods, etc but I'm new to Yorkies. Could you suggest any bored related threads that are good for a new Yorkie mommy? I'm also currently looking for a solid vet that has had lots of experience with small breeds, esp Yorkies. * I live in the greater Boston area!* | |
