Ive only had to with hold food a couple of times due to upset stomach or surgery. You feel bad for them but its for there own good sometimes.

I had to keep the boys from drinking water for almost 24 hours because they would barf it right back up. They didn't go completely without -- I wet their tongues and gums using my fingers, and let them suck on an ice cube while I held it. Humans are often restricted to ice chips in the hospital.

Yeah what would bother me is not even doing that. When they told me not to let Callie do it it was a very hot summerish day so I was terrified she would over heat or something. I just gave her little tiny bit of water.
