| Colitis scare for our boy Hi hope everyone is well, Its been a while. Busta really scared us on Saturday, he was rushed to the vets as he had lost a lot of blood he completed a bowel movement. We were given 2 options and the second wasn't worth thinking about. We opted for option 1 which involved a night in the hospital wing of the vets and an IV and lots of meds. We were told the next 24 hours would be critical. We had to then wait over night. Me in London and my partner and our boy in Gloucester. First thing very early Sunday morning I drove up to Gloucester the longest three hours of my life worried what I would be arriving to. The vet called and said we would be able to bring him home later that day but we were a long way from being out of the woods and the next 48 hours would be telling. They left in the cannula in case they needed to administer fluid quickly. We bought him home and had a very sleepless night hoping it wouldn't be our last with him. We returned Monday morning were the vet could see a little improvement but said it was still a case of wait and see. The cannula was taken out and we bought him home again, he started to show more awareness and probably realised I was there for the first time in the vets where he actually stood on his back legs and tried to get up to me. Later we went for a little slow walk and he even had a little chicken. Tuesday was back to the vets were he seemed very encouraged with his progress and said we may have turned the corner. We were told to come back Thursday, at home he has really made good improvements - he even started to play with his ball and barked for the first time in 4 days. Music to our ears. We are now just waiting for the appointment today and he hasn't got to take anymore meds the moment. I think it is safe to say this has been the longest 5 days and now I want to do whatever I can for this not to happen again. So I'm looking for advice with diets and how to get him to gain the weight he has lot along with building up muscle in his back leg as he is still a little weak. All that is left for me to say is a big thank you to our vet Jake for having the faith in our boy!!! And it is great to see him up to no good again around our home Last edited by jce1977; 10-02-2014 at 04:19 AM. Reason: typo error |

| I'm glad to hear Busta made it through his colitis ordeal. I know how truly scare it is. My ZoE had what the vet thought was colitis last year. I wrote about it in this thread http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-er-visit.html I'd never seen a dog go downhill so quickly. I was terrified I was losing her. It took a good few weeks for her to get completely back to normal. It was chicken and rice for days, then slowly adding more and more of her kibble and less of the chicken and rice, until she was primarily back on her kibble. The vet said we had to give her insides time to heal on the bland food before her usual treats were introduced back into her diet, like apple, carrot, cheese, banana, etc.

| Colitis Thanks for the postives. It's so scary when it happened. Glad Zoe gif through it. Last vet appointment this afternoon. He's just had chicken so will introduce some rice in his evening meal. The things our little loves put us through. I've taken the week of work to get him on the mend. I think you have more options available to you in the states here I think we are slightly limited. Xx. Hopefully this will be our last trip to the vets for a long time x |
