Nail Care Trimming the Nails, do you do it?

This is why I love yorkietalk! So many great suggestions for clipping nails. Now, to buy a swaddling blanket. I've always had the groomer do this, but I think I'm going to brave it on my own.

I just wonder how the hind leg will be able to be taken out of the swaddling blanket and it still securely closed around it? It must work ok or Lisa wouldn't be using it. I looked at one of those preemie ones but the ones I looked at are barely 9" long and wide so I'll have to go up in size to accommodate my 7 lb. sturdy boy!

I use a microfiber towel to wrap them up, it's stretchy & holds them nicely secure. When I'm doing their hind paws, I leave the legs hanging out when wrapping them. Their hind nails rarely get trimmed anyway since they grind them down when walking. I noticed that the 2 outer nails need trimming maybe once a month if needed. The 2 middle ones get filed down nicely, never need to trim those.

Jeanie you must have missed my reply. I bought the swaddle to contain curri while I use the sonicare on her teeth. Michelle must have been confused. But I'm thinking if the bottom was cut out you could use it to Dremel the rear feet while containing the arms. Not sure how well it would work. I'll play around with it.

There is a pre made slit in the back that could be used to extract one rear foot at a time possibly if it was positioned around to the front.

Oh, yes, I did miss your reply, Lisa! And thank you for the information. This is just what I needed to know. I wonder if a small infant-sized swaddle with that slit would fit my 7.3 lb. Tibbe as I think the 9 inch preemie ones I found would be too tiny for his sturdy frame. He's turned into a little tank! Would you mind sharing which brand you got so I could see if they make them in a small size besides just preemie?

And I happen to know from 27 plus years of parenting/ nanny that the average infant is 7 pounds so a small should fit perfectly

Oscar goes to our Vet to have his nails clipped . It's free .
He is too squirmy and cutting those tiny nails makes me too nervous.

I know , it is awesome . It is only free to clients though . It is also convenient as the Vet office is 5 minutes from our house

Thank you. Tibbe is just 7 lbs. so I figured he would likely need a small. That preemie size just seemed way too tiny for my sturdy boy! haha. Thanks again for the good tip and the link! Saved lots of searching.

jadabug how do you find the dremel, I've never used one or seen one used. Is it noisy?
I clip and treat clip and treat. Sometimes I manage to get all nails done at once, sometimes depending on the dogs mood I only get 3 or 4 nails done at a time

The Dremel isn't very noisy. At least it doesn't bother mine very much. I have a video from a couple of years ago of sugar being dremeled. Let me see if I can find the link or the thread.
