| Liverwurst as a treat? I accidentally found out that my picky, skinny foster pup LOVES liverwurst! My son dropped a piece, and Baby scarfed it up & went crazy looking for more! I've never given it to any of my pups, & and I'm wondering if it would be ok to use as a "high value" treat? I'm not worried about calories as Baby needs to gain a pound or so. He's really picky, so it's hard to motivate him with treats for training. Thoughts?

| Doesn't liverwurst have a lot of sodium & onions (toxic to dogs) in it? It's also got saturated fat. Primal makes excellent liver treats: Wholesome Snack for Pets: Primal Treats

| NO!!!! Super fatty and can lead to pancreatitis. My Uni has it and it's a very painful and expensive condition to have. Do not give pate, liver, bacon, steak, burger, or anything else with a high fat content.

| Being half German and living in Germany, I grew up eating Leberwurst but it is definitely way too fattening even for us as humans, never-less very fattening for dogs which can cause a lot of issues for their little bodies. | Thanks for the input! I guess I'll be skipping the liverwurst! We don't eat it here, (sons gf brought it for him) because just the thought of eating any kind of liver grosses me out. Any suggestions for a really yummy, stinky, high value treat for a picky eater? I'm not worried about calories because he needs to put on a bit more weight.

| Tiny bits of string cheese works great. Even though he needs to put on weight, it's not a good idea to give him fatty foods such as hot dog, steak, hamburger. Boiled plain chicken breast without the skin is also very good. Give just enough, about the size of a pencil eraser. Their tummies are the size of a golf ball, some even smaller. They need a balanced meal in them, otherwise can go malnourished.

| I guess boiling it would take out more of the fat, but I still think ground beef is pretty fatty. I wouldn't but then again Uni has pancreatitis, so I wouldn't chance it.

| well boiling it seemed like a good idea to me and very little fat comes in the water ...however I dont give this on a regular basis ...just sometimes when I cook beef which is not very often as we tend to like chicken ....I also give them chicken which I boil as the vet told me too for them. ...

| Yes I boil and rinse it several times before giving it to them. As I said before we dont eat alot of red meat but when we do I only buy 95% lean and I boil it and rinse for my furbabies. I mostly have chicken, baked, no skin and I usually boil their share of chicken if I chose to give them any. Its only a treat now and again
