At least your vet is a VET...she was a vet tech? So what! She is now a business person trying to get your money! Bottom line, if your pup is doing well, leave it alone. Don't bother discussing what you feed your pup with people like that. Do what is best for your pup after consulting with your vet. I have had many pups on RX foods for long periods (years) who did just fine!

Love this thread, very helpful. Our pup is 7 months old. I keep trying to get her on something besides ID but she gets sick every time. I am tired of cleaning carpet so going to stick with it until I get time to try home cooking. Firm poop is the most wonderful thing in the world ![]() | |

| ![]() You don't want smoked bones if you can buy something like a raw pork neck or a lamb neck or even a beef or pork rib, these bones are softer. Talk to your local butcher, but stay away from weight bearing bones especially beef as they are very dense and can cause teeth damage. Also nothing with too much marrow, it's very rich and fatty, and can lead to digestive upset |

| ![]() I found this very interesting regarding the ongoing statements of people that proclaim vet's are paid by dog food companies. It seems that the American Holistic Veterinary Association is actively recruiting with donations to vet schools. The American Holistic Veterinary Medical Foundation: Science or Salesmanship? | The SkeptVet American Holistic Veterinary Medical Foundation gives $10,000 to University of Tennessee Veterinary School to Promote Alternative Medicine Posted on March 18, 2013 by skeptvet Last fall, I wrote about the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Foundation (AHVMF), an offshoot of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA), which is devoted to raising money for the promotion of alternative therapies. The AHVMA is a vigorous advocate of unproven and outright bogus therapies, and I have frequently discussed their activities. From the annual “scientific” meeting that includes promotion of ridiculous pseudoscience on the dime of herb and dietary supplement companies to its vigorous defense of homeopathy, the AHVMA has demonstrated a commitment to the standard of no standards when it comes to veterinary therapies. Despite lip service paid to science and free use of the language of evidence-based medicine, the organization is clearly an advocate for any and all therapies under the broad, essentially ideological label of complementary and alternative veterinary medicine (CAVM). Follow the link to read more of regarding this. Pretty interesting

| ![]() If you get some ribs cut a couple off before you cook them and throw them in the freezer and then give them to the dogs. The bones are the perfect length to avoid choking. There is usually enough meat on them for an entire meal. |
