| Kennel cough contact How is kennel cough spread? Can infected dogs leave behind the bacteria/virus on the floor of a pet store, for instance? Or does one dog have to cough near another to transfer?

| ASPCA says: Dogs can catch kennel cough in several ways. It can spread through aerosols in the air, directly from dog to dog, or through germs on contaminated objects. Kennel cough is often spread in enclosed areas with poor air circulation—while boarding in a kennel or an animal shelter, for example, or through direct contact while sitting in a vaccination clinic, training class or dog-grooming facility. Kennel cough is so contagious that your pet might even catch it from sharing a water dish at the dog park or by simply greeting another dog. Most kennels will not board your pet without proof of a recent vaccination against parainfluenza and bordetella, two of the main causes of kennel cough.

| That is just plain scary how contagious it is. I don't vaccinate mine because I don't board them, and don't walk in public places much, nor take them to Petco. I suppose the biggest threat would be when they go to the vet for annual checkups, and I usually take them in their carriers.

| I wish I knew how to groom my pup like you guys. Looks like I'll have to get him vaccinated after all. |

| I was hesitant about the bordatella but I had planned for lilah to have a very social life (more so than it is actually) and have a strong interest in show. Another factor for me is that I work in a store that allows dogs, in fact the shop dog is almost always there and I come into contact with a lot of animals and of course I'm walking in all this stuff all day too. I strive to continue in my goals learning handling skills and being in a show environment even if my precious lilah is not exactly a showgirl so I myself will continue to vaccinate based on those factors that we have going on for us.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Kennel cough is basically a "dog cold" - so it's spread through air, from dog to dog, and can live on objects for a while (don't know how long though).

Fwiw, he still walks through pet stores, he recently went to a large pet expo, etc, no problems. He does see a mobile groomer though and is not boarded.

| We have a mobile groomer who doesn't ask for records of vaccines.
