| Neuter & Microchip Hi All, Noah was neutered yesterday and everything went well. He only had two baby teeth (K-9)left which were extracted. I completely forgot to get him microchipped and was wondering if anyone had their puppy microchipped without anesthesia? Thanks in advance for your replies. |

| neutering is the best thing you could do for the health of your lil boy. Sorry can't answer your question about the micro chipping.

| Hi...I've had Yorkies forever (seems like) and have always microchipped them during dentals or spaying, except for the one I have now, Halo. The needle is big & scary looking and trust me, Halo is a SCREAMER but she didn't even flinch when she was chipped. If only she was that quiet when I trim her nails ! The chip itself is about the size of a grain of uncooked rice. Halo was 6 months old when I had the chip inserted. |

| The needle is bigger and you could always ask for them to use a topical anesthetic cream if you're concerned about it being painful (not sure that it would make that much of a difference though). But it's over so fast that I'd personally be okay just having done in the office like a normal vaccine. I think it'd definitely be worth it and safer to go ahead and get him chipped now without anesthesia than waiting for another procedure in the future that requires it. |

| It's routinely done around here without anesthesia or during spay/neuter.

| Dude and Bogey were both chipped at the local PAWS shelter because I forgot to ask about it during their neuter. The vet said he could do it in his office but they were having a Fundraiser at PAWS and decided to support them. Neither of them flinched during the chipping. It really was NBD. The injection needle is rather large but just don't look when they are doing it. The girl doing the chipping just pinched the scruff of the neck and it was over in 2 seconds.

| Thanks everyone for your comments and reassurance! I'm going to take him next week to the PETCO clinic and have it done there. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It may hurt a bit, but it truly shouldn't be anything that bad at all. The chips are like the size of a piece of rice, so imagine the corresponding needle...larger, but not unbearable.
