To help Buster loose his weight they told me to cut back his food by 20% and monitor his weight. If he was loosing then keep him at that amount until he reaches the desired weight. If he was not loosing to cut it back another 10%. If you give treats you have to figure them in your calorie count as well. I use a kitchen scale to weigh out his food and a baby scale to monitor Buster's weight. You can give green beans to fill them up when cutting back on food. I use the steam fresh bag. if using canned go for no or low salt and I always rinse them and pack them in water to dilute the salt content.

Hope Charlie has adapted to his new way of eating, and enjoying his new food. It's really hard on us to say no to table food, you have to be strong on that. I have always been very strict of my dogs weight, no table food, only on holidays, and it's just a tsp of this & that. I see dogs come into vet so over weight it no longer looks like it's breed. Ppl love their dogs, want to treat them extra special give them table food. They don't realize they are doing more harm then good. I am happy lil Charlie can avoid surgery by losing weight. Good luck in helping Charlie loose extra lbs.

My point is when you are feeding 1/2 cup of food total each day that should really include any treats you feed too. Royal Canine is a really good food and what I feed too.
