| There is plenty of information on the web about pancreatitis. I don't know where the author of that article got the information so I don't know how accurate some of the claims are. The one claim that there are more cases is dogs on processed food concerns me a bit and I am not so sure it is a fact. I also was a bit bothered by the claim that moderate cases do not require IV therapy. I have seen dogs die from pancreatitis that was not even considered severe. One of them belonged to my son. A dog's condition can turn on a dime when they have pancreatitis...it is nothing to play with! I do agree that any dog on IV fluids should be monitored 24/7. I take mine straight to the IMS if pancreatitis is the diagnosis. The article you are posting is written by someone selling supplements so I do find it to be a bit concerning. Here is another link that people might want to read about pancreatitis: Pancreatitis in Dogs | VCA Animal Hospitals

| Well he specifically states that in his personal practice the cases are kibble fed dogs. Yes I don't know about that non IV thing myself as it's very important to keep them hydrated. But not being a vet with regular experience in treating pancreatitis, I haven't seen the varying types that present themselves. I encourage anyone who sees any of them syptoms associated with pancreatitis to get straight to your vet or the emergency vet. I see nothing wrong with him advertising products he sells related to pancreatitis. I think it at least shows folk they are out there and he's not saying you must buy these. But I'm sure for his clients who read his blog they'd be happy to know what's available. He also says you can get stuff elsewhere too. My vet carries an entire dispensary of natural and medical products too. |

| I have my concerns about this article. Zoey had been on a raw diet for her whole life (4 yrs) and has had pancreatitis twice. Now she is on prescription Royal Canin food now. I'm really sad that she can't eat raw but her health is of the upmost importance.

| HMMMM, I can see several things wrong this article. My late Molly had Chronic Pancreatitis and there are many things suggested in this article that seem to be wrong.

| We repeatedly hear that raw diets mean the dog won't get pancreatitis and that conclusion is not supported by what is known about pancreatitis. The pancreas is stimulated by fat and by protein and both of those things are high in raw diets. A dog with a pancreatitis history is placed on a low residue, low fat, moderate protein diet which reduces the amount of stimulation on the pancreas. I have an old dog who has had it twice and he was not on a kibble diet when he was hospitalized twice with his life on the line.

| I don't believe that there is solid science behind this. Energy is the ability to do work, so he is saying something like: Pancreatitis can be caused by an unability to do work in the thoracolumbar region due to injury. What?? I'm not sure how the claim can be made that many raw fed dogs are misdiagnosed with pancreatitis because their baseline lab values are different. This vet would need to see these dogs right after diagnosis and have them ultrasounded to know this. My dog has had pancreatitis. It has never been triggered by kibble. I'm not sure if he refuses to give Tramadol too, but withholding pain keds from an animal is not appropriate.

| The article also contains outdated info on how vets diagnose the problem. He is incorrect also about the protein piece. Time for a continuing ed class for him...
