| It is a Diamond owned food. Nothing special. Although I don't like Champion, if you do and Orijen is too high in orotein why not Acana? Why the switch?

I wouldn't choose any of these foods for an intestinally challenged pup.

| Thank you for your response! Hmm I guess these tummy noises are just a normal thing... I say that because he acts perfectly normal.. A couple symptoms mentions were lack of appetite and discomfort which I haven't noticed. |

| I emailed Champion with some questions about my concerns with Protein and they emailed back within a couple of hours answering all of my questions and then some. Very Happy and will keep her on Orijen. |

| [qQUOTE=sganow;4348042]TOTW is a Diamond food. I don't feed it because of Diamond's past history and also because ALL Diamond foods and ALL foods manufactured by Diamond gave a couple of my dogs the most horrible gas! If you feel Orijen is too high protein for your dog, you might try Acana. Acana is made by Champion, the same company that makes Orijen. Another good food is Horizon Legacy, and also Amicus, both of which are made by Horizon. Fromm is also very good.[/QUOTE] Ian gained a little weight while eating Fromm kibble, although he loved it. He now eats Solid Gold mixed with Wellness Core, both kibble. He has lost more than a pound and is at his ideal weight.

| So I started feeding Illy the Nature's Variety frozen raw for one of her meals and a combination of the Instinct limited ingredient duck kibble with a little bit of canned mixed in ... She seems to be satisfied. Before with just raw, she seemed to always be hungry. She gives it a 4-Paws Up!! |

I don't recommend mixing a raw and kibble diet. It has been caused to cause bloat in dogs. This is because the raw breaks down and is absorbed and processed within 4-5 hours, whereas the kibble takes a dogs system anywhere from 14-24 hours to process and has been seen to cause digestive upset in dogs.

We believe customers need not be concerned about mixing raw and kibble at the same meal. Raw is like canned food in terms of moisture content and rates of digestion; people routinely combine canned and kibble diets with no digestive upset or stomach emptying issues. There is no scientific evidence that combining kibble and raw food causes the raw foods to be digested at a slower rate. FAQ's - Safety and Quality | Nature's Variety Even Darwin's, Stella & Chewy's and Primal's website talk about mixing raw and kibble when you are transitioning over. None of them seem to think it is a problem... I'm not worried about it.

| This is what I read & thought it was not good to mix raw w/kibble, but this talks about real raw food like PMR, not premade raw. Some are high pressure processed, like Primal using HPP to kill off the bacteria, so maybe it's different?: Starting Your Puppy On A Raw Diet | Dogs Naturally Magazine Start off cold turkey It’s not wise to mix your puppy’s raw food with kibble. Because kibble requires a different pH in the gut to digest, it will make your puppy more susceptible to the bacteria in the raw meats. He is capable of handling this bacteria just fine, but once you add in artificial foods, the meat will sit in his digestive tract twice as long, meaning there is a much greater chance of harmful bacteria building up.

| I have no idea... I have heard from people who mix and have no problems and from people who don't think it is wise to mix... ??!! I guess it is all in what each individual feels comfortable with... ?? I have been feeding Stella & Chewy's frozen premade raw, rabbit the past 2- days for breakfast and dinner... "No Kibble"... and everything is going very well, so far. |

| When I was researching I came across a couple of Threads where "Wylie's Mom" said it was Perfectly Fine to mix Kibble and Raw and she explained why... but i can't seem to find them, now!! Perhaps she will see this and can reiterate what she had said. I will continue to search. |
