My Rico has allergies too. He was on shots but not now. When he has an episode, I give him Benadryl. Never thought of anything else.

My vet gave him a dose based on his weight of 9.5 lbs. So he takes 5mg of regular Claritin (not the "D" which is dangerous for dogs) once every 24 hours. My vet said that the Claritin doesn't make them drowsy like Benadryl. I don't think Barney is drowsy. I would definitely ask your vet if you could try it out and make sure you have the right dose.

Finny gets Chlorpheniramine for her itches and runny eyes... so far it's working fine!

My friend's Yorkie is on that too and it made a big difference for her too!
