I guess it depends on the recipe. For me no. If you had veggies in the recipe a food processor would be nice.

You do need a good kitchen scale.

I cook daily....I was going to cook batches and freeze, but changed my mind. It does take a bit of time, but not horrible.

Ingredients, you can make as cheap or as expensive as you want. I like organic and fresh.. so I do spend more.. But if you shop sales and price stuff it really isn't that bad. Right now I can get great potatoes at farmers markets.

If I can't.. Trader Joes is pretty inexpensive. I just made 40 days up and froze everything.. it cost about $35 for the potatoes. Eggs are what I will spend money on. I buy from a local farmer and it runs about $10 a week. But I don't care.. I don't skimp on the protein.

Then, there are other things that you have to consider, you need a good scale, and decide how you want to store everything. I buy quart size freezer ziplock bags, weigh out my potatoes and freeze individual portions. Then all I have to do is defrost a portion and add eggs. I have added the eggs before and done the entire meal, but I prefer to add the egg fresh.. Because it is preservative free the eggs get ugly frozen.

That's it.. probably runs me about $40 a month. Not bad.. RX food would be her only option.. and the cost would be right about there or more..

Yeah I probably spend max $20 on a food per month (including canned food), so that would definitely be a steep, but doable. I just think I might be too lazy for it unless it was totally necessary.

The closest thing I've seen to being pre-made is this food, but I have NO idea about the company, or it's reputation etc. But when I saw it in the pet store, looked pretty good. I just think it would end up costing way too much to feed this solely.

I used to love both but cannot stand to eat them now. I don't even like smelling the tilapia.

Can I ask those who cook their food at home...how do you cook your meat?? $50/month doesn't seem bad to me at all. I am guessing that I spend about $100/month for my 2 boys with their canned food, dry food, and toppers.

Right now...I am afraid to change my dogs food around and they are on Wellness, which has Carrageenan in it. I tried to change their food recently and I think that might have triggered Princeton's last health "episode."

I did start my younger dog on PM Raw and he seems to be tolerating it fairly well...but I still mix it with the Wellness "Simple" and a topper.

In the mean time, I am going to call Wellness with my concerns about the carrageenen...but I'd love to be able to find a way to cook for them and have it so it doesn't upset their tummy's..

BTW~I am happy to hear that Hills is finally creating a Grain/corn free product. I checked out a bag of Ideal the other day but did not buy it. Hopefully they will start reformulating their prescription foods as well!!
