9 weeks old, 3 days with diahrea I don't know what to do . My pup is only 9 weeks and a day after bringing him home started with diahrea (darkish brown). He only eats about a teaspoon of food a day and always wants to be held. If we put him down on the floor he walks back and lays down on your foot, arm... This has been going on for 3 days now. What should I do. Help!

Diarrhea is very serious in such a young puppy. They can dehydrate very quickly and 3 days is extremely too long not have contacted a vet. For your puppy's health call the vet and make an appointment there is something not right. Dehydration can kill a puppy so small...it can kill an adult dog! Poor Puppy

| Ditto! My puppy got diahrea right after I brought him home also. Its probably the change in food etc, My vet gave him an injection of IV so we could fast him alittle.{they usually fast a dog toget rid of diahrea but cant do it for as long with a yorkie because of their size) He also gave him medication and keopectate. He was back to normal soon so try not to worry too much.

The others are right. Diarrhea is serious in a small young puppy. It is difficult to keep them hydrated and nourished when they have diarrhea. The breeder should have gone over all the things that could happen and what to do for them. If there is no pathological(germs) reason, just food, water, home change then the baby should be treated one way. If there are other things involved, meds need to be used under the vets' supervision. I am on a soapbox and do not intend to hurt anybody's feelings BUT, ALWAYS MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH A VET BEFORE YOU EVEN BRING YOUR BABY HOME. You can always cancel the appt but it is really hard to make one on a moments notice. The written purchase agreement should state the time within which the puppy must be examined by the vet. If you have other pets, keep the baby away from them til the vet gives the newby a clean bill of health.Take stool specs in the first visit..

I hope i don't get yelled at for this one but here it goes lol i took zoey in to the vet for her shots and he asked me how she was pooping and eating i told him she was picky at first but she eats good. So he told me if she was to ever have have diarea i should give her white rice. I looked at him like what? white rice, he said it helps the with the diarea but i really don't know. i think you should take him to the vet and see what they say.

I have heard that you can settle a dogs sensitive stomach by feeding them boiled chicken and white rice. What you said seems about right to me..that is what I have heard. I know a girl that has a yorkie and she had colitis(sp?) she was feeding her boiled chicken and rice....

| I agree with the boiled chicken and white rice. Take your pup to the vet, you don't want it to continue. Plus, i'm sure the clean up has been an absolute joy! You might also want to wash any blankets the dog lays on, and wash the water and food bowls, that way if it is some sort of virus ( I have no idea) maybe you can kill the germs?? Keep us posted, and let us know what the vet says.

I brought my puppy home at 12 wks. Although his stool tested postive for coccidia(parasites) I was told to not feed him food for 24hours and then to feed him boiled white rice and boiled hamburger meat for a few days. That did work but he also was on meds for the coccidia. Also my Gizmo weighed about 4lbs.

At first I didn't take him to the vet because they told me to wait another day and see how he evolves . After a while I noticed he could harldly keep his balance so decided to take him to a different vet. When I called they told me to bring him in right away. Once their, they observed that his sugar level was down and treated him. After a while he got a little better and started eating some boiled ham. The little bugger ate it like it was his first meal in days (well it practically was). Anyway they are keeping him for observation for a couple of days but at present shouldn't have any serious problems. I guess that if you look at the bright side, I can say that I was very pleased with the breeders I purchased him from. I phoned them and informed them about the situation and they immediataly told me that they would pay for all the expenses, without any hesitation . The only thing now is that we miss our little boy, especially my daughter, and we are awaiting his return to us :Puppy: . Well let me tell you that I will never set foot at that vet that told me to wait another day, I went their because it was closer to my flat. I also wish to thank you all again for your concerns and advice.

My puppy got diarrhea yesterday morning and I called the vet, who wasn't in, so talked with a vet tech. She told me to boil lean hamburger and mix that with white rice...that the rice would help solid things up. Also I am supposed to give her 1/2 tsp (4 1/2 pound dog) pepto bismol 3 times a day. I thought she would like the pepto bismol, but she hates it and I have to force it into her mouth. Anyway, she has had no more diarrhea and seems to be feeling fine...and she loves that hamburger and rice!
