Yorkie Yakker | False Pregnancy??? Hello All! My Sweet 10 month old baby Sony just finished her first heat. I haven't got her spayed yet because she had ringworm (boy that took forever to get rid of) and because of the antibiotics and anti-fungals she was on i had to wait. She came into heat before i could get it done. This is the last heat she will ever have to go through! I have felt so sorry. During her heat all she wanted to do was sleep in her crate away from us and had a poor appetite. She was just totally different. A couple weeks before she even started bleeding she acted weird. Well, It has been a month, a week, and 5 days since the point when she started bleeding. She has been done bleeding for a few weeks now but her mammory glands are still quite swollen and she is still uninterested in things. She has never been a terribly hyper girl, especially for a yorkie, but she is just especially not now. If i take her outside she will pull on a leash and wanna chase things some and will run a little while off a leash. But when we are inside all she wants to do is lay on us and sleep. Her appetite fluctuates. It has increased considerably though from the time when she started bleeding. She just wont play with her sister doggie stella. Used to on occasion she would get worked up and play. This distresses me. I know she cant be pregnant because the only other baby i have is her spayed sister Stella (not that it would matter because she is a girl) and the only boy she has been around is my grandparent's neutered boy Mac. She was never in contact with any other males. I guess what i am asking is: Is this a false pregnancy? I created an album entitled Swollen Sony and added three pictures so you guys can see exactly what is going on. The only signs so far are the swollen mammory glands (and her lower female parts are still kinda big)... and then the lack of energy and fluctuating appetite. She has very solid poo... and has a good color in her gums.... also, should i take her to the vet? and is there anything i can do to make things easier for her? I am worried about her all the time. Thanks so much!! |

| I'm sorry about your little Sony I have no experience with false pregnancies. However, since she is acting so out of character, I would probably schedule a vet visit just to have her checked out. I'm sure someone with more experience will be able to give you some advice. Good luck!!

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | We had 3 false pregnancies This is crazy, and if it hadn't happened to me, I doubt I'd believe it myself! In 06 my now 14 year old girl gets pregnant out of the blues. My wife and I were stooped because she had absolutely no contact with any dogs. That same month my wife discovered she was pregnant with our fist boy. We thought it was a hilarious coincidence. After about 6 months even with MILK, she went back to normal. 08 comes around and she gets "psychologically pregnant" again! My wife out pure fun takes a pregnancy test AND SHE WAS PREGNANT with our second boy. It totally freaked us out! 2011 and my wife discovered very early on that she was pregnant with our baby girl. We kept an eye out for the dog, and BAM! She starts producing milk! This only happened these 3 times, never before! Crazy?! |

| False Pregnancy I have a female that cannot be spay for health reasons. Every 6-7 months she goes into heat and about 8-9 weeks later she starts her false pregnancy behavior. It is at the same time she would deliver if she was pregnant. She carries the same toy around with her everywhere she goes. Her favorite is a tiny pink pig. I don't know why. She is a bit needy but not excessively so. She does not have enlarged mammary glands but I have heard other people say that about their females. Her heat cycle is exactly like an intact female. It does last at least 30 days. Her activity level is less but not so much that I worry. She gets B12 shots every 6-8 weeks anyway so I don't worry. If she forgets which bed she last left her pink pig she lets me know that I have to find the pink pig. Until I find which bed she left it in and return it to her everything else must wait. About 3 weeks later the pig starts losing its importance. The 4th week I put the pink pig away until the next time. I was told the toy should be removed from her when she is not in a false pregnancy because she needs to believe it is her baby that she has not seen before. There is a lot on the net about cannine false pregnancies. I only know one thing for certain. Like human pregnancies no two are exactly the same. It may be perfectly normal what you are experiencing. I would call my vet and go in only if he thought it was necessary. I say that because your female is having physiological changes and not just emotional, hormonal and mental changes. Next time you are at the pet store see if there is a pink pig toy. It may come in handy! Good luck! I started a post reply earlier and it disappeared. If you see a post of mine that is incomplete and does not make sense just ignore it! |
