| I just found out that Beneful is bad for Max (Please help!) Guys, I need some help. I just read a page full of one and two star ratings on the Beneful brand dog food because of the constipation, vomiting, and overweight issues their dogs were developing due to the first ingredient in Beneful being corn. My mom and I have been buying Beneful for Max and I didn't know it was this bad. I'll have to tell her to switch Max's food to something else. I care about his health as his owner and want to avoid him having these symptoms. My question is, does anyone have a recommendation for a healthier dog food I can feed Max? Would Blue be good to feed him? Thanks in advance! |

| Corn isn't the problem with Beneful. It's other things. I feed my boys Fromm. The company has a century of experience and a good reputation. Check out their Gold line. We use the 4-Star line Chicken a la veg, but some dogs may be sensitive to some of the ingredients. I like that it is easy to find and it is reasonably priced: 12.99 - 14.99 for 5 pound bags.

| There have also been deaths and very sick dogs link to Beneful. It is also a Purina product and Purina are the makers of waggin train chicken jerky that killed hundreds of dogs and made many dogs sick for years before they pulled it off the shelves. I think Blue Buffalo, Now, Acana and the new science diet are great.

| I've bn feeding Blue Buffalo about a month. I think it's great. Also, Dogfoodadvisor.com gives it 5 stars---5 out of 5! Go to that site for further info. |

I have always fed Canidae All Stages to Nilla (they have had recalls before she was ever put on it), but lately I have been trying Holistic Select's duck formula. She seems to like the flavor better than Canidae. I've been trying to find different foods that Nilla would like to eat more because she would eat the Canidae because she obviously had to, but she would never eat much of it and never acted like she really loved the flavor. Seemed more like toleration. xD I will probably try Earthborn next, and eventually I would like to try Canine Caviar. I helped my mother - in - law order Earthborn for her Yorkiepoo because they were looking for an alternative to Canidae (their dog is very picky and won't eat her dog food anymore -- I know why though -- she cooks the dog eggs or meat in the morning and then meat in the evening too -- if I were a dog I wouldn't want to eat kibble either! uggh!). It seemed like a good quality food. I know many won't agree and will say to see a nutritionist, but I find dogfoodadvisor to be a helpful resource. It breaks down the ingredients, protein amounts, and also lists relatively recent recalls on said foods as well.

| Beneful is not good, looks pretty but that is all. I know I once fed it due to TV ads and its " healthy" kibble look, that is before I found YT and learned diet sense. Blue Buffalo is good, as is Wellness and both are readily available. Canine Caviar is good too but not easy to get except at specialist pet shops and mail. Rules are to find on the ingredient list, named meat first, no corn, no by products or un named meat products, made in USA, NOT China!! As you will see on threads here, dogs vary with their likes and dislikes, and how their digestive systems tolerate foods. So it has to be trial and error. Try samples if possible, then most stores will refund the bag cost if the dog does not like it. Also it is good to transition new foods gradually by mixing the new and old over a week or so until it is all new. Good luck! |

| We use Horizon (Legacy and Amicus) and Fromm (Four Star formulas). They are great foods from great companies.

| I highly doubt that Beneful uses high grade corn...Canine Diseases Linked to Cereal Grains in Dog Food (Part 1) & this alone makes me wanna puke: Propylene Glycol - Dog Food Aid or Automotive Antifreeze? WHY the heck is in the food?!

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Great info Jenny! When I was looking for foods, the very first thing I did was to eliminate EVERY one that adds coloring...I figured my dogs don't care if there's little red & green kibble in their bowl. I also tried hard to convince MIL to do the same sort of research. Sadly she bought Beneful for her Jack Russell. Patches now has severe liver issues & probably a shortened life span. I always say buy the best you can for your pups. It really pays off in the long run!

I use Fromm also. Before the last big recall I used dick van pattens natural choice.. it was good but packaged by diamond. I did the research and Fromm seamed the best to me. My guys love the chicken a la veg and if you like their fb page they have coponds from time to time. I also feed a homecooked food for their evening meal. I started when I found out how alful dog food was.. it was a bit too much too do for three dogs (two being larger) and now four dogs so I feed kibble and homecook.

| I got burned my Purina myself so I would never recommend purchasing of any Nestle/Purina products! Mine all eat FROMM kibble- They have been making pet food since WW2 and no recalls. I will give some Honest Kitchen or SoJos as a treat. They do get fresh fruits, veggies, meat, etc. daily. I homemake most of their treats. I would do my own research if I was you! Feed what works best for you and your furrbutt. Purina doesn't work for me!
