| Benadryl I've read several threads mentioning giving Benadryl. How much can you give a 4yr old? What reasons would you give it to them? Anxiety, bug bites ??? THX Janice |

| May I ask why YOU are asking? Is there a particular issue your pup has? Firstly I do not think any pup should be given Benadryl without consulting with a vet. Age would not be a factor in determining dosage but rather weight, health and reason for doing so!

| No reason right now. Just curious in case a time came and it was needed. I just didn't know you could give it to them period. |

| Yes, it is given by weight; but you really should just ask your vet. If you have a good relationship with your vet, you could just call and ask.

| Benadryl Same here! When I took Nilla in to get her shots, the vet mentioned that Nilla's eye was especially pink (which she added would be from allergies), and to give her children's Benadryl (she implied the liquid because I vaguely remember 'spoon'). I Googled that just today! xD Wanted to make sure it wasn't going to lead to problems down the road, and check suggested dosages. Couldn't remember what dosage she told me -- my mind was apparently mush when I took her into the clinic ... I wouldn't imagine it would be more than a teaspoon, but I could be wrong.

| Generally the dose is about 1mg/lb (not 1ml per pound). It is important to keep it on hand in case of an allergic reaction.

| I think it should be Children's Benadryl (especially if you have a tiny teacup yorkie). Reasons I heard about are: before some shots vet told us to give benadryl so that he takes it better, also if you think he may be allergic to something, or you can also give it to him if you need to make him drowsy, for example if he is going on a long car ride (but I wouldn't make it a habit). |

But....yes, in order to get the EXACT dose it is good to get the liquid (childrens) as you can calculate it better. As Ellie May said, though you MUST be careful and not mix up ml with mg. mg is the DOSE ml is the LIQUID MEASUREMENT You read how many mg are in each ml when calculating a dose.
