| I agree with you. I don't believe mine was a transition change GI upset either.

| I have been researching dog foods since the early 80's and IMHO Science Diet is one of the worst foods on the market for our dogs. .... |

my dogs have done well on thier products in the past. I have tried numerous different brands and they really never took to it or didnt do well on it, so I always went back to science diet, until now. Thank you for your input.

| Well, I'm not going to into a long explaination about why I chose to feed SD. But I will say, A LOT of factors go into deciding what the best food is for each of my 3 dogs.

| It sonds like you got a new formula bag. If the new ingredients that people insist on using aren't working for your pups, then I personally would probably just putthe family on EN if they all have to have the same thing. That is just me though. I'd do bland diet, fecals on all, etc. Then if food still doesn't work, switch.

| I knew when I hit the "post" key there would be a ton of different opinions re: my opinion of this dog food. I purposefully chose SD to look at because of all the vets that recommend it and who sell it. I could list all the sites and articles and breeders etc., that I have talked with over the years concerning all dog food but that would be really me doing your research for you. Simply google "why feed SD"... "why do vets recommend SD" benefits and downfall of SD,, and so on ... read for yourself. Having said all this I understand people getting really defensive... that honestly is not my intention at all!!! I hope to share my new baby with you all when he arrives and will depend on your experience to help me with his raising , to be the best little guy on the planet. If I didn't want your honest opinions on these important issues, I wouldn't ask the questions.... please don't be upset with me. |

| I haven't really heard of many issues with SD. I have never fed it to my dogs though. I feed Horizon Legacy, Horizon Amicus, and Fromm 4 Star Nutritionals. I haven't had any issues with any of those except the salmon formulas. For some reason foods with a lot of salmon don't agree with one of my dogs.

Not being defensive at all...I am simply stating my opinion about a company that goes above and beyond. It is simply tiring to hear the scuttle butt about this company that just so happens to save the lives of many dogs with their RX foods....and I do believe their foods are safe and healthy. Some people who feed these foods are actually afraid to post it .. how sad. All that because so many have trashed the foods over the years. I am loud and proud about what I feed. Not upset with you at all...if you knew it when you hit Submit Reply, then perhaps you knew it was really not something that should be said? I don't know... You say you are just now getting a new puppy. I have had pups for a long long time and they are not having issues due to the foods I feed them. They are actually quite lovely and healthy...other than the ones who happen to have genetic issues or other things that are common in the breed.

I havent either until thier forumla change and Im so dissappointed this has happened. By the email, other than them stating that it could be a "transitional gi upset", SD seems generally concerned and Im happy about that. From all of the complaints out there I am not the only one that is experiencing problems. I have tried Ideal Balance in the past, my dogs didnt care for it much but maybe its worth another look. Did they change those formula's also?

yes, it was the new formulas. My dogs dont all have to be on the same food, I want them on the same food, easier for me. I have two on a bland diet now. Fecals have been done all clear and Im switching because you cant get the old formulas anymore. Thank you for your help.

Maybe it was not the food?? I mean..it is logical if they changed it that it could upset tummies but I don't know...it did not happen to me.

| I am no expert on different kinds of dog food...there are experts on here that can help you with your questions....I have always had wonderful results from Royal Canin, and I feed it exclusively, and no one gets sck, no GI upsets, .....Thank God, because if I had to start trying to navigate all the dog foods out there.....boggles my mind....if I ever do have to change, I think I would go with home cooking...... I want to say I hope your babies are feeling better and I think you are doing the right thing by notifying Science Diet about this....praying for your little ones to get gealthy again..... |
