My furkids Donating Member | got a question about a new heartworm medication Hi All! Been gone for a while! sometimes life just gets busy!! Originally I was giving the furbutts heartguard....however...I would notice they would vomit after taking it., they are only 8 6 and 4 1/2 lbs. I feel they were being over dosed with the heartguard. I switched to interceptor...well we all know what happened there! Figures!! and it worked great with no vomiting! Now my vet wants to put them on this new heart worm med, Tirfexis. Have any of you used this one? have you had any issues with your pups getting sick from it? I know it is an all around med that treats a lot but, how safe is it....really...would appreciate some feed back....i bring all three of them this week for the HW test and meds. Thank you everyone!

| I just changed over to trifexis also Remy would not take the heartguard.. and I was worried if she dropped it one of the other guys would eat it and over dose. The vet said they wouldn't.. if they had too much it may give them stomach upset but not hurt them. I not so sure if I believe them lol Anyway... I hope the new one is good.

YT 2000 Club Member | I give mine Heartgard Plus.....they are 1 and 3 lbs. They love the taste and I have not any any stomach issues. Maybe it just didn't agree with them....wouldn't think it was because of their size!

| I have only used it one time. That was with Lexi, our mini schnauzer. I have always used interceptor with my babies and never had a problem. My vet told me not to give my yorkie babies the new heartworm pill. So now, I have them all on Heartgard. So far so good. |

| I don't like it. Interceptor is discontinued but they started making Sentinel again.

| I am suspect of Trifexis. Some dogs have issues with vomiting after it and I also heard something about the possibility of it causing problems with seizure prone pups. Might not be valid concerns, but this is a new product that is being pushed and I just don't like new products. I really don't understand the reason for it...Heartgard and Sentinel have worked for my pups for a month of Sundays. Going to stick with them!

| I've been giving my boys Trifexis for awhile (at least 2 years I think), and they have done great with it. No fleas, and no side effects. We were giving Sentinel before, and they always seemed to have soft/runny poo for a day or 2 after taking it. They haven't had that with Trifexis. |

| I have been using Trifexis with Lollie for over a year with good results. I make sure that she eats a full meal before giving it and we haven't had any problems. |
