| Human Food or Puppy Food My "Rylee" passed away and I am in the process of getting a new baby. I have been doing some research and I am wondering if it would be better to cook "real" food for my baby. I want to do what is best for him and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks so much. |

| I home cook for my girls. I think it's the better way to feed them but that's my opinion. With all the old recalls, I feel better about knowing what is in their food. I use petdiets.com and my supplement is BalanceIt.

| I feed raw and, also IMO, that's better for them. There's so many "rights" and "wrongs" and "dos" and "don'ts" that it's better to just research for a while and figure out your own opinion. Feel free to peruse the threads here - there are so many on this topic!

| I think home cooking is great but you need to make sure to talk to a dog nutritionist about it to make sure you are getting the dog everything they need. I personally would do a high quality puppy food until they are an adult and would then home cook to make sure they are getting everything a puppy needs.

| It is not recommended that home cooking be done for a dog under a year of age. Personally, I fed all my dogs home cooked as puppies but used kibble as well. I personally love home cooking, but there are drawbacks (expense, preparation and storage, lack of portability) and I feel very strongly that any home cooking should be done under the guidance of a veterinarian who is assessing your dog's overall health and body condition. I further think a veterinary nutritionist who is both a veterinarian as well as board certified in veterinary nutrition through the ACVN is the ideal and most appropriate way to do a home cooked diet for a dog.

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I give him the puppy food that the breeder fed him. Whatever you decide to do Please make sure you feed him first what the breeder give him or her. The transition is a lot for a young pup and changing his food just adds to the stress. Good luck deciding
