It is not recommended that home cooking be done for a dog under a year of age. Personally, I fed all my dogs home cooked as puppies but used kibble as well. I personally love home cooking, but there are drawbacks (expense, preparation and storage, lack of portability) and I feel very strongly that any home cooking should be done under the guidance of a veterinarian who is assessing your dog's overall health and body condition. I further think a veterinary nutritionist who is both a veterinarian as well as board certified in veterinary nutrition through the ACVN is the ideal and most appropriate way to do a home cooked diet for a dog.
