| Dental ?'s I recently had Neo (who will be 4 in April) at the vet for his usual anal gland and nail spa day, lol. I asked if he or Connor needed their teeth cleaned, and was told no. I was a little taken aback, especially since Neo's mouth is so tiny, and hard to brush, and both boys breath is less than fresh, most of the time. The vet said to just "double down" on the brushing and that their teeth looked good and very little tartar except on the molars, and with the extra brushing , that would take care of it. Am I just being a worry-wart, and borrowing trouble by being less than thrilled with this diagnosis? I worry about what is under the gumline, and have seen the results of poor dental hygene with my in-law's doxies. I don't want my boys to loose teeth! |

| well i hate them having to be put under for dentals so i would be jumping for joy when told no need. have you ever tried tropiclean fresh breath gel. mine hate brushing and i use this and it really helps break up the build up and keeps them having much better breath. this is the write up on it. TropiClean Fresh Breath Clean Teeth Gel Kit, 4-oz bottle; Fresh Breath Clean Teeth Gel works fast and naturally to help reduce plaque and tartar on dogs and cats - no toothbrush required. Its blend of natural, holistic ingredients produce a healthy oral environment. It kills the germs that cause bad breath, plaque and gingivitis and it soothes minor gum irritations. No toothbrush required for clean teeth and 'up close' fresh breath everyday!

| well maybe just keep a close watch on them and build up so you can see any possible things that you think might need attention.

| You might just run him into another vet and see if he or she agrees. With a tiny mouth in a tiny dog, it is very hard to clean it well if the dog is predisposed to a high bacteria count in the mouth. There could be a tiny little pocket somewhere on the back of a tooth that needs cleaning just under the gumline. Maybe even a canine dentist second opinion.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmmm...I dunno. I mean, did the vet actually examine the teeth and gums before arriving at the conclusion? Or, did he just say it outright? Do you give them chews to help w/ teeth? A good chew is CET chews bc they actually contain dental chemicals. Vets sell them for crazy prices, so get them instead on Amazon. You could also use raw bones to help w/ teeth.
