Sorry OP for hijacking your thread, did the vet offer prescription food? Momo has been on Hill's C/D to help w/struvite crystals (I get his recheck test tomorrow, keeping fingers crossed!) & my other 2 has to eat it to lower their pH. It's only temporary, for 4-6 weeks, then they need to go back for a recheck. Hope you'll find a siutable diet for your little one!

If there are studies to prove the anti-inflammatory effects of coconut oil, they weren't done on carnivores, but on rats, rabbits and humans (herbivores and omnivores). Herbivores and omnivores do very well on vegetables and fruits, but carnivores simply don't. Carnivores don't process plant based oils very well because their digestive systems are geared towards digesting animal based products. Simply put, plant based materials take too long to digest for a dog and they cause a lag in digestion. As they ferment in a dog's stomach, they cause inflammation, gas and bloat.

| Protein has to be converted to a dry matter basis (mathematically removing water content). Raw diets based almost exclusively on meat will be well over 20% protein. OP, if the urine pH is high, then it is too alkaline. It would probably need to be acidified (but over acidifying can cause other problems). Struitrs are usually related to infection. O'd talk to your vet or a nutritionist about a diet formulated to regulate pH. One of my dogs has a bladder problem. Then he started getting struvite crystals with a higher pH. We maintain on RC SO.

Sorry I meant to say that these are alkaline (not acidifying) producing foods - that's why the pH can go higher. My dog daisy the vegan runs a higher urine pH. Similarly my dog teddy ran high pH on a grain based diet and that returned to normal when his food was modified to grain free. My other dog has eaten rice his entire life practically and normal pH. So maybe there's something to it in some dogs.

| Wow, I can't be asked to debate this, but I really encourage people to get facts themselves. Maybe geographical origins of information change some market based facts but some facts are indisputable othwise you end up in a circular debate... Links were previously listed for reference. All foods packaged in America or for sale in America require ingredient and nutritional information be avalible to consumers. Per FDA &USDA
