| Dewclaw? When I was holding Joel I felt something on the inside of his front leg. I thought it was something stuck in his hair so when I looked closer it looks like a tiny part of the dewclaw but they were taken off by the breeder. What could it be, did the breeder miss something and some thing grew back? He's having an appt. soon so I could show them but was just wondering if this happened before. |

| Well....It does look like the dew claw is trying to grow back. I'm not a vet but telling your vet about it, I'm sure they will be able to offer suggestions on how to handle it.

| Tibbe has a small one on his right foreleg that I didn't notice until he was 3 1/2 or maybe 4 years old, it is tiny and the nail doesn't really seem to grow though every month or so I use the Pedipaws on it. The vet said just leave it be unless it caused him a lot of trouble but it is so tiny and his leg hair thick so it's pretty well protected.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Yes, if a breeder didn't get the whole thing, it wil grow back. As long as it doesn't become something that could be torn off I wouldn't worry about it, but I would also ask the vet to be sure.

| I was going to say it looked like a tick to me too! I've never seen a dewclaw that grew back though so wouldn't know what it looks like. Jackson has his, and it's just like any other nail.

| I have seen a dew claw that grew back. It's like a fingernail, if you loose it, it can grow back. Best to have the vet check it out. Your baby will be fine!!

| If they didn't get it all it can def grow back. Some people have them recut off during surgery. If it wasn't bothering him and you dont think he is at risk for it to get caught on something then I would leave it be. If there is a chance you think it is a tick. I would get it removed ASAP because of Lyme Disease.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | A dew claw trying to grow back is definitely what that looks like to me! Dexter had his dew claws removed and I haven't seen any signs of them growing back .... Clyde had his dew claws removed as a puppy ... and at around one year old one of his dew claws randomly grew back. It was the strangest thing. |

| Thanks guys The vet said it's the nail growing back from not being removed properly, and it's fine to stay but we need to watch for it growing back deformed. |
