| Weight Gain My little girl is about 4 and half pounds which doesn't seem bad, but I can feel her spine and hips more than I'd like. I'd like her to gain about a pound or two and recently switched her to Wilderness Blue dog food. Her food is left down at all times, but does not have access to it at night. I'd like to have her on a regular schedule but I don't work normal hours so it's hard to feed her at the same general times. I also started giving her a third a can of wet food several times a week. I'm not sure what else I can do to help her gain weight aside from cooking home food for her. |

| You know, some dogs, like people, just have a higher metabolism than others. You can feed her wet daily (if you can), but I personally would talk to my vet and then a nutritionist, just in case there is something else going on.

| Without seeing her, it's hard to tell but you really are supposed to be able to feel their hips and spine, if you can't it means there is too much fat covering them.... I wouldn't worry too much unless she looks emaciated and you can really see all those bones sticking out, not just feel them. I'm always surprised about what a healthy weight looks like on a dog. I always think the slightly overweight one looks healthy and unfortunately, too many pets are severely obese these days.... |

| Roxy is a food burning machine. She eats more than her mother and sister and is still thin. I would rather my pup by on the thin side and healthy than a porky yorkie. Just food for thought. If she checks out as healthy at a vet appt. Don't worry. Cozy used to be thin but then at 5 put on weight- She is borderline porky yorkie as is her daughter Lucy. I never have to watch the amount Roxy eats since she is thin compared to the other 2.
