| Stella And Chewy food. I posted this in the wrong thread before, sorry. I try again. I understand that I could do a search here, but will ask anyway. Does anyone have experience with this food? I see it is raw and that creeps me out. A pet sitter I was considering says she uses it and all the dogs love it. My dog is eating Blue Buffalo Chicken/rice kibble now. How would he take to changing to S & C if he were fed that? Any advice would be most appreciated. Thank you. |

| I had my baby on Orijen kibble for several months, I had done a lot of research and that seemed like a really good food. However getting my baby to eat was such a challenge and while she always pooed well, often times I would hear her tummy gurgle so after more research, I tried Stella and cheweys. For the first time Zoe gets excited about every single meal now, she never leaves anything and gets so excited about meals. I fed her the freeze dried for a couple months and decided to try the frozen, it is supposed to be the exact same thing as the freeze dried and it was a little cheaper, however Zoe refused to eat it so I have gone back to the freeze dried and she eats very well again. Her tummy no longer gurgles and meals are no longer a battle. This will continue ue to be my food, even though it does cost about $25.00/week. |

| S and C Thank you very much for your helpful reply. I feel so much better about the food now and may try it. Weird that the frozen and freeze dried are so different to your baby. Dogs can detect things we know not of. LOL! Again I appreciate your input. It helps to get others' experiences. |

| Jack got about 10 samples from the Cherrybrook store by our house and he LOVES them! He has every flavor right now lol. Every time we take him, they give us more samples....don't think I'll be buying any, any time soon. Our breeder gave us Eukenuba and he's quite finicky with that but we mix some Merrick food in and break a piece of a stella & chewy freeze dried patty and sprinkle it on top....it's like fine dining for him lol.

| S & c Thank you Shannon. Great you were able to get all those samples and so happy your boy loves them. This food does seem to work magic! At the moment I am feeding Canine Caviar and my dog eats it providing I put Parmesan cheese on it. Perhaps first I will try a little S & C on the kibble and if all goes well slowly increase the S and C. Then he will get used to it for when he goes to the pet sitter next time. ( she feeds it to all her dogs) |

| Many people love it. Some of their foods are very high in fat. I would skip it.

| I like the freeze dried raw and that's the only raw I would ever use. Callie got a sample of one once in her bark box and loved it so much. When she was not eating once because of a medicine she was on I got some of the chicken freeze dried and that got her to eat she loves it a lot but I just am not comfortable feeding it full time. They seem like a great company.

| Food Thank you for your comments. I did not know it was high in fat and that is not good . Perhaps using raw as a part of the diet might be worth a try. This food issue is so confusing with so many different views. It comes down to what suits each pet. There is no "one size fits all" it seems. As far as raw is concerned I do think that S and C is the best and their quality control is excellent. |

| S and C food Thank you for your input. I too was worried about the fat content of the food. I called the company and they said the frozen was 5 percent fat and the freeze dried started off at that before being dried. When the dried has water added it is the same as the frozen. She also said that as it was raw, the fat was more easily digested. I wondered if it may be ok to use only partly raw with regular kibble? Comparing the different foods and types is not easy, but I am sure others here will be better able to do fair comparisons. Sorry your baby put on the weight, but at least she liked it! I looked at canned chicken dinner, Blue Buffalo, for comparison and that was 4 percent fat?? Last edited by dottiesyrky; 05-15-2013 at 12:12 PM. |

| Don't forget -- 5% fat seems extremely low but you have to convert it to a dry matter basis. A dry food with 5% fat is excessively low, I'm not even sure such a food exists. But a raw food with 5% is like feeding a dry food with nearly 20% fat. I think S&C seems like a good brand, I would just be weary of the fat content, and I have heard of some dogs porking on it.

| Fat Thank you Britster. 20 percent does seem high. I wish all dog foods would give the dry matter value for direct comparison. It is confusing at the moment trying to compare apples and oranges. This food issue is so hard. Too many variables, ingredients, component percentages, country of origin, recalls.............! |

| On a dry matter basis the freeze dried chicken is 26% fat and the frozen chicken is 30% fat. Dogs eating raw still get pancreatitis. Doesn't matter how digestible the company claims it is... Both protein and fat are a concern.
