Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Just want to add that flax can make some dogs itchy...so beware. I've used fish oil and have never noticed weight changes. I only use a small bit, at the PM meal.

| If it is helping with itchies, that's good. But if it is just being used for coat health...a shiny coat doesn't necesssarily mean a healthy dog. It means there is a lot of fat in the diet sometimes. A lot of fat for yorkies Can be a really bad idea. Unless you are homecooking and using this asa fat sourse, a little yorkie does not need much. IMO, a capsulea day is too much. And while it is probably beneficial to most dogs in small amounts, IMO again there may be an underlying issue if you are relying on it.

YT 2000 Club Member | I was told by my vet & breeder that Flax Seed is their recommendation for itching! In researching it, there are other benefits, too. I did not find any thing about allergies or weight gain. Is this a possibility? Now I am worried I am giving the wrong supplement!

| Dogs don't convert flaxseed to the helpful acids very well. I'd skip it personally uless your vet prescribed it. It is very high in calories.

| I was squeezing 3 drops on Zhoie's morning dry food, maybe I will go with 1-2 drops every other day or so. With her cotton coat, I do love the effect if using it, but if I need to stop...so be it. On the flip side, she is not an active girl either, hence...may be the weight gain.
