| Liver Shunt Symptoms My little yorkie pup, Rocky, had ear mites and was prescribed Tresaderm. He went off the Tresaderm due to a reaction. We saw the vet tonight just to follow up and I told the vet that Rocky had always drank a ton of water and urinated a lot, even prior to his ear drop medication. The vet seemed concerned and did some blood work because he said he could have a liver shunt. We won't know until Wed. This worries me because I have heard that dogs need surgery and being he's only a pup who weighs 2.6 pounds this scares me. However, the only symptoms he has of a shunt is he drinks a lot of water and is very small, but I'm hoping he gets bigger as he is only 5 months old. I just wanted to know what were some of the symptoms of shunts? I'm very concerned as he is our little baby. Any info would be appreciated. |

| Did you get an update on your pup? I'm in a similar situation: My dog is 7 months old and 2 ounces shy of 3 lbs. We've had him since he was about 4.5months old and he has only gained about 1/2 a pound. We took him in to get neutered last Saturday and the vet was concerned about his tiny stature and his inability to gain weight (he actually lost 2 ounces from the month before). She suggested we do bloodwork to see if he is suffering from liver shunts. I'm really nervous about the outcome but would appreciate if you or anyone else would share some other symptoms their dogs had prior to discovering the shunt? |
