| Kissable Pet Toothbrush & Toothpast combo After reading about this in a post here at YT I orderd it. My dogs love the vinilla toothpaste. They still aren't crazy about the toothbrush but we'll get there. I like the design of the toothbrush. Then I read the post about dangerous oils and guess what is in the vinilla flavored toothpaste? Tee Tree Oil!!! Why does it seem so hard to find safe and effective products for our pets? I only want to do the best I can for them and yet it seems that I have to be a detective, chemist, doctor, vet, scientist, and lord knows what else to feel like I'm getting a safe and healthy product. Sorry I just had to vent |

| It is awful that we have to read ingredients and know which ones are bad or know where the product is coming from before buying I agree with you. It is just like some products for dogs that have garlic in them when garlic is a no no for dogs. I think someone pointed out It would just take like 6 or 7 drops of tea tree oil to be toxic to a dog and thats alarming so I wouldnt use any product with it in it

| It's horrible that we have to be so careful... You just never know what is in our pet's products and foods... You would think if a company created pet products, they would do research on harmful ingredients?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Anything can be harmful, it depends upon the concentration. The reason for the other thread is so many people assume that since it's natural it can't be harmful, and people are buying these oils and using them for different things without knowing the correct dosage for a small dog. I doubt if there is a known safe dosage for a 5 pound dog, someone would have to test that, and it's not worth it to me, there are other products that are tried and true. I don't know if the amount of tree oil in the toothpaste could present a problem for a toy breed or not, but smaller companies don't tend to do any testing, and rely on buzz words like "holistic organic, and natural". Petrodex Enzymatic and CET toothpaste has been tested and shown to remove tartar and plaque, they might be a safer choice.

| I wrote to the company and this is the reply I understand your concern but please know that we would never market a product that we thought was potentially harmful to any animal. This toothpaste formula was tested on 860 dogs and 350 cats. We got back a result of 100% conformance, in all the exhibitions, no secondary reactions, allergies, diarrhea or any other disease related to the ingestion of a toxic ingredient has been reported or found. 100% of the material used in the test was quarantined first in order to evaluate the proper compounding of the formula. In order for tea tree oil to be toxic to dogs (or humans for that matter) it has to be consumed in very large quantities (think drinking a liter). Our formulas have less than 1/10th of 1% so even if the dog ate the whole product, it would not be toxic for the dog. While tea tree oil can be toxic in very large quantities, it has tremendous benefits when used correctly. It is a natural antiseptic and helps get rid of plaque, which can be extremely detrimental to an animal’s health possibly leading to heart disease and kidney failure. There are many vitamins and herbs that are so good for us when used correctly but toxic if not - vitamin a and other oil based vitamins are prime examples because the oil can build up in your body if you consume too much. We have been selling this toothpaste for over 6 years now. We've sold nearly a million units and do not have one case of adverse side effects.. We truly appreciate your concern and I hope you know that our company is made up of animal advocates like yourself. I was buying what he said, until he said it's toxic in only large quantities, “think of drinking a liter”. The article says as little as 7 drops can poison a dog. I'm not saying his product is unsafe, I guess it just depends on how much you trust the company and what he's saying. It probably wouldn’t bother me a too much using a tested product with tree oil in it, such as this toothpaste. However, some people buy the tree oil themselves and experiment with it, this is what I think would be unsafe. Lots of things are unsafe if used in too high of a concentration, but because this is natural, some people might overuse it, not realizing its poisonous in large concentrations. I also wouldn’t want it in a variety of products that I used on my dog, it seems like that might be harmful as well. I mean if it’s in a variety of things, he could be getting a drop here and there etc. By the way, good for him for replying so quickly, and also to the company for testing the product. This would make me feel a little safer.

| Thank you for this thread. I use Kissable dental wipes on my boys (no tree tea oil!) and carried Kissable products in my boutique. I have removed the toothpaste. It is popular, so much so that the company is out of stock. I'm working on carrying CET toothpaste, which I prefer anyway.

It's the tee tree oil that is in pure oil form (not diluted) that is toxic, if ingested. Most pet products that contain tee tree oil is diluted & should be safe to use. But I personally would not feel comfortable giving my fur babies anything w/tee tree oil in it that they will ingest, like toothpaste.

| Toothpaste We are using C.E.T. toothpaste as well. I wish Calleigh would be more cooperative when I'm brushing. She seems to be getting worse, rather than better. She is turning her head more than she used to. I still attempt to brush anyway, I'm not giving up.
