| Why is my dog eating all the time? I've posted on the sick forum about my 8 yr old yorkie who has chronic problems with both allergies and digestive issues, maybe related , maybe not. In the last year she almost died when sh developed ulcers possibly from steroids we used for her skin allergies. She has had pancreatitis at least 5 times this year, 3 times in th last 1.5 months.she has had Bleeding gastroenteritis a few times also though not this year. The vet doesn't seem to have an answer . Blood work has been normal except for elevated pancreatic enzymes when she has an episode. The episodes are getting more frequent and I'm running out of money . The other odd thing that I'm wondering if it could be at all related is that she wants to eat all the time. I've changed her back just recently to home cooking from blu buffalo because of all the issues. I feed her twice a day, maybe a1/2 cup of a mixture of lean turkey , brown rice and sweet potatoes.. She eats all of her food and if I don't watch will eat the other Dogs food too. I always leave out a small bowl of dry toy breed Blue buffalo kibble too, and lately she has eaten that too. She wakes up at night to eat it even when she's eaten all of her regular food. Her stomach is always making weird sounds too and you can feel the bubbling after she eats. Mayb this is normal but I wonder if it indicates trouble with digestion. So what could this voracious appetite mean?shes a big girl at 9 lbs but I still think I'm feeding her enough. Does this excessive appetite indicate any illness that you have heard of ? Im just trying so hard to find some answers . Its gotten so bad that several people have suggested I consider euthanasia.(I have not as she is my whole life)how about the noisy stomach and bubbling, normal or not ? |

| If pancreatitis has been diagnosed five times, why isn't she on an rx diet? No over the counter food is ok for this situation. Your vet hasn't recommended another diet? IMO with what little info you have posted, it does not sound like this is a case in which euthanasia is necessary. It does sound mismanaged medically. My dog has had pancreatitis more than once, severe food allergies (itching), severe food intolerances (horrible diarrhea), some type of esophagitis, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, and a liver problem and she is still alive! We had to find what works for her. And it was not easy. What tests have been done? Any talk of biopsy? Homecooked food is much less calorically dense than kibble, so they do need more volume. Obviously intestinal parasites has tonbe considered and hypothyroidism. With the recurrent pancreatitis, if this excessive eating is new, you may need to now rule out exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.

| Have her checked for Cushings. Our wonderful moderator WyliesMom has a sweet boy Wylie that has it. It's treatable but one of the major symptoms is increased appetite and thirst. Our Boxer had Cushing's as well. Best of luck.
