| Stinky Breath? Okay, since we switched Jaeger to Fromm Surf and Turf, and quit giving him dental chews, his breath absolutely reeks. I do brush his teeth (not as often as I should, admittedly, but I'm remedying that as we speak.) We have an entire tube of toothpaste, so I'm not looking for toothpaste recommendations yet. Does anyone know of a grain free treat or chew, or something I can give him to help his stinky breath, please? |

| Zukes Z-Bones are grain free and my girls loved them. I just had a hard time finding them around here AND they are over $1 each for a 5 minute chew so for now they are enjoying Himalayan Chews, also grain free but longer lasting.

Max Main's Mamma Donating YT Member | I have purchased a grain free natural dental chew before (I can't remember the name) and it improved his breath for one day. I decided not to give them to him anymore because I am worried about pancreaitis. So....now I just deal with his stanky breath. I hope someone knows of something that is safe!

| Breath should not reek simply because of a lack of chews. Honestly, chews don't do *that* much anyways. I do believe they help, but they should not "cure" stinky breath. Brushing daily is the best (C.E.T. toothpaste is what we use with great success). CET also has chews that are for teeth, but Jackson eats them too fast, so we don't buy them anymore. I'd have him looked at by a vet to be sure there is no possible retained baby teeth or another issue causing the stinky breath first. Jackson had a dental last year and tooth surgery, and they found a dead tooth up front that had to be pulled... I had no idea it was dead- looked fine to me! You just never know.

Max Main's Mamma Donating YT Member | Thanks for the info. Max just had his baby teeth extracted 1 month ago. Do you think that the vetp possibly missed one? He is on the floor next to me and I can smell his breath from here. LOL!

| Green tea mints work for humans, according to my daughter's pediatrician. Her little 4 year old son had really nasty breath and they decided it was actually coming from his tummy. He gets to have a treat of a green tea mint each day and it totally resolved the problem. I have not heard whether mint or green tea would be bad for a dog, so I would certainly check it out with the vet, first. Sometimes, an infection can follow dental treatment and perhaps your puppy has a secondary infection from his dental treatment. Best to get it checked by a vet. |

| Thanks for all your suggestions! The last time Jaeger had a vet appt, I made the vet check for retained baby teeth and she said he was good to go in that regard. We've only noticed a change in his breath when he switched to the new food, and his breath smells exactly like the food, so maybe it is "stickier" than the old food. We noticed a marked improvement after brushing his teeth, so I think that's probably our answer. I just wasnt sure if there was something herbal I could give him to combat it. | stinky breath My puppy just turned 8 months on Saturday. She is still teething; however, her baby teeth have not yet fallen out. It looks like she has double teeth. Could this be the cause of her stinky breath? I've had her 2 months now, and I've just attempted to start brushing her teeth on Sunday....with MUCH difficulty. She squirmed her way out of it. I barely got through it, and it didn't really help her breath. |

| After reading this I realized I have been brushing Cali's teeth about every day (and she just had her dental last month) because her breath was funky. I had just changed to From, from NOW & GO about a month ago. Think I'll go back to the NOW & GO combination and see if that is the reason. Can't think of any other cause. Thanks for bringing that up.

| We have just started dog training, and my trainer said to keep a close eye on the teeth in the next 6 months. If the puppy teeth haven't fallen out by then, I will have to get them taken out! I sure hope they start falling out soon, because they are not loose by any means, and the adult teeth have already come in! Her breath is very stinky and fishy smelling! |
