about weight I was just woundering what is the full weight of a yorkie terrier when it's an adults size. where I got her from said she might get 8. but not sure if that the full size but I have seen on charts and they said no more then 8. but I don't want her to be over weight either. so if anyone has an idea pls let me know and thanks |
The standard is 7 lbs and under but alot of yorkies end up larger than the standard we call them teapots |
the weight should be more how much does the "frame" of your pup need. Some yorkies are tall and long and some are more Cubby, that bone structure type can carrie more weight and still look really small... the fine boned tall yorkies may weight less but look a little bigger becasue they are tall. What I did after Remy was "grown" is looked up how to tell if a dog is over or under weight and as long as she is healthy not worry about it so much. You can check the ribs, and the back bone feels and if they have a belly:cool: For example- Remy charted to be 3.5 lbs. She was so very skinny! When she gained to over 4 lbs. I was so happy.. them she kept going and got a little chubby. Now at 2 1/2 years she has settled into the weitght that is perfect for her bone structure.. which is 5 lbs and she goes up to 5.25 lbs.. any more and she has a "belly" lol |
as someone said in a previous post the adult weight of a yorkie depends mostly on frame and body structure. for example my boy oscar is 7 1/2 pounds but he looks the same size as his 6 pound yorkie playmate. oscar has short legs and a small frame and square body type |
I have seen and heard of yorkies from 2 pounds all the way to 20. The standard says not to exceed 7 pounds. Many yorkies can be over 7 pounds and not be overweight. Your vet should be able to tell you if he is overweight or not. |
If you don't feel back fat by the spine and ribs you should be fine....Goes for the dog also :) |
I never thought of the frame of her body. that is something to take a look at and see. |
I just don't want her be over weight for her frame. but the people said that she might get to be 8pd. since her parents one of them was 6 and the other one was 7 I think that what she told us. |
I never heared of yorkie 20pd before that is a big one. I don't want her to be that big then she would be over weight for sure. |
I just might check that part out to see if the sprine and ribs if there is any back fat there. but I do feel her rib when I do that kind of test before. |

for mine 20pd would be over weight is what I was meaning. so I just might have to check with the vet the next time she is in there to see what is the right weight for her shape and size. |
