He seemed to have no life and this is the world's liveliest dog! I tried him on Royal Canin GI for a bit but he scratched so much on that, I switched him to the Hill's as the vet recommended from Day 1 and he had no itching and within 7 - 10 days, his life was turned around and within 2 weeks, he was completely back to himself. Now he has none of those old symptoms and is lively and full of energy, playing and running like a puppy. I will always be grateful to the company that made a food that my dog can eat and get well on. Maybe vets recommend it because it works for so many dogs with less problems? I'm just grateful mine did and while I will probably segue him to Wellness? or Nature's Balance ? -whatever it was Ellie May(Crystal) recommended a while back(it's written down in my Day Planner book for when I go shopping for it) but I will always be grateful to Hill's and their products for helping my dogs during terrible trouble.

Science Diet Sensitive Stomach Kibble was the ONLY food that my Jilly could eat without the worst of the worst GI problems. She had bloody, mucous-y stools and copious vomiting on anything else! So I am a huge fan of the people at Hill's.
My Macy has to eat this due to a bad HGE incidint more than a year ago & is doing fantastic- just about the same story as yours-hair looks great now, energy is great-she is so much healthier on the I/D food

IMHO it's all about the money!

I wouldn't donate a bag of SD to the animal shelter.
I prefer TOTW, or BB now that they have a grainless wilderness flavor...although I feed Raw and BARf in model prey it's not for everyone.

Try here---> Dog Food Reviews and Ratings | Dog Food Advisor
Both TOTW and BB have actually had more recalls than SD. So not so sure that they are any better really.

I think the post above meant she "wouldn't even donate a bag of SD to the animal shelter" because it's so bad. Correct me if I'm wrong, concretegirl.

But I think that's extreme - shelter dogs are just happy to eat! SD does so some nice programs for shelter dogs which I think is nice.

Oh, I knew exactly what she meant. And, my thoughts are that she feels shelter dogs should get bad food...but that she thinks SD is below even that.
Bottom line she is always insulting to others who feed SD...she has done this quite a bit in this forum....and I chose to only address her shelter dog comment. The other isn't quite worthy of my time any more.

Well, my opinion is that I'm grateful shelter dogs are fed, period. I'd rather have them eat SD, Alpo, Biljac, Raw, homecooked, Orijen or WHATEV instead of being loose and eating dirt or rotten refuse.

Regarding the endless debates about food (always interesting and passionate) - these debates will go on forever, which is not a bad thing imo. I hope people will make an effort to be kind though and/or respectful.

At the end of the day, we all have to feed what 1) works and 2) we believe in -- whatever that means for the individual.

As many of you know, I feed raw and have for years - but if my dogs had to be on SD for some reason and it worked for them - you can be darn sure I'd feed it! SD WORKS beautifully for some dogs (just like how any other type/kind of food works for some dogs). What if no other food but SD worked for a certain dog? Gosh, more power to feeding that kiddo the food that works for them.

Lots of people here don't like raw here, and it's fine to voice that opinion - but it sure means a lot when it's voiced respectfully...just as it means a lot to those who feed SD when someone posts their opposing opinion respectfully.

Debates/discussions are good...but I hate to see these food debates go downhill bc of the manner in which things are said.

Exactly whay lady jane said how any of you could misinterpret other than to have drama is beyond me...I wont donate junk food you the homeless shelter I wobt donate sd to the pound lol whoch is regularly feeding diamond brands here.

Totw has had one recall brit in a newlt purchased factory in missouri.
Diamond has has several however its a nationwide company and recalls are voluntary so sd has had less...compared to diamond not bb or totw

Excuse ne lady jane thats a blatant lie in the least an over exaggeration.

You flipped a gasket when I used the word junk food and assumed I meant your Hills and two other brands.
Quite frankly you should reread thise post any previous post I mentioned I specifi ally said I do not feed corn foods and one of my dogs is allergic to corn.
I cant choose how you read and comprehend but fir the record this is time #1.You jumped to naming tje names defending what you choose, so what if I'd toss SD in the trash before donating it...that's my opinion.

Im not cobdeming those who do feed it though. I SAID I, ME ...

I don't think anyone's lying here; people interpret things in different ways and we can't jump on people for how things are interpreted and perceived. All we can do is maybe explain better, or clarify, ya know?

My take on some of this is that it's a bit insensitive to say or imply that what someone is feeding their furkids is "junky" or "bad". I'm not saying that's what you meant...I'm saying I can see how people could interpret things like this and could be offended by it.

If someone said what *you* were feeding your kiddo was crap or that you were hurting his health...I dunno, maybe that would roll right off you - I can't say. But if it does/would, it doesn't mean it would for others. I think I'd feel bad if someone said or implied that my feeding raw was "bad".

If anyone thinks SD is "junk", they're free to have that opinion - everyone is welcome to their opinion here, as best we can support that. But personally, I don't like seeing food called "junk food" - I'd rather people just explain WHY they don't prefer a certain food....ie, "I don't like feeding corn or flax or rabbit or whatever and here's why....".

Just for the record: I don't care what anyone thinks of what I feed my pups. What bothers me more is that there is a climate of intolerance (and rudeness imo) with certain people on this forum and there are other people who read these things and really don't know any of us. They might think that someone here is an expert and stop feeding something to their pup that is good for that pup...and the pup could ultimately end up ill because of it.
I have received countless PMs from people about Hills...people who are embarrassed to say that they feed it to their pups. That's a shame! Some of these people have very sick pups and those foods could save their pups' lives.
Yes, I agree there needs to be a bit more sensitivity.
I post about Hill's on here for ONE reason only...to educate those who think it is unhealthy for their pups. IMHO this forum should be balanced and my posting my experiences with Hill's is part of that balance.
Remember this: "One man's junk is another man's treasure."

I am going to have to agree here. I had fed Rosie SD for quite a while and then I started reading how bad it was on here. So of course I went on a search to find a new food. The new foods did more harm than good for my girl. I am one of those people who sent LJ a pm. I was beating myself up for feeding her SD. I honestly wouldn't have if I hadn't heard how bad it is in thread after thread. I home cook now but if I had to I would put Rosie back on SD. I think Hills gets a bad rap. I also think there are way worse other foods. But that is just my opinion. There have been a few members who have said it, if it works for your pup than that is all that matters. Thank you Linda for opening my eyes to that.

I think its a matter of choice. Now with the RX foods there arent very many choices you pretty much have to feed SD. If you dont have to feed an RX food which I dont Iwant to feed a food that has better ingredients than SD

Quick question the lady I got Bailey from recommended Diamond dog food and said only chicken or lamb. Is that the best for them? Also, I heard that using Fish Oil broke on food will help with itching.. Any thoughts?

At one time, I also looked at ingredients without paying a lot of attention to the company. One day I started thinking about all of the recalls and decided to look into the company of the food I was feeding my pups. They had all of these great words on their website about their team of experts, yadda yadda....I decided to write to them to find out WHO their experts were...no response. I called them and was treated like an idiot.
I then spoke with my vet and then a vet nutritionist and after those discussions I decided to look at company first...then ingredients. I find Hill's to be a solid company ... and I am happy with the ingredients in the food I have chosen:

Science Diet®

My experience with Science Diet was nothing but good.

I don't feed Science Diet now, but their prescription food saved Finnigan's life several times before I joined YT. He couldn't keep anything down, had bloody stools, and that food is what did the trick. I'll be forever grateful.
