Hiding Under Bed After Vaccinations

Is this normal?


My almost 5 year old yorkie went to the vet tonight for his check up and vaccines. He has a lt of anxiety an doesn't enjoy being around strangers. However, he is always ok after going to the groomer.

As we're in bed es hiding under it. Won't even come out for a treat. Should I be concerned?

Yes, call the vet. He could be having a reaction to the vaccine and some reactions are dangerous, life-threatening. Make that call. If your vet is closed, call an ER vet or take him in as no one here can diagnose what is wrong.

Don't call the vet to say your pup is under your bed! Get under there and pull him out and check to make sure he is physically ok. He might just be upset!

My Max is very skittish, has high anxiety and hides under the bed often. However, you should probably keep a close eye on your dog and you can't really do that if he's under the bed. Get him out from underneath the bed so you can properly monitor him.

I would also call the vet.

Some anxiety for him may be normal. What you need to check after vaccines (if acting different) is color of gums (shouldn't be pale), any swelling in 'cheeks'/mouth, shakiness, cold paws, fast heart rate, weak pulse, vomiting/diarrhea.

You might want to think about giving Benadryl to him about 30-40mins prior to his vaccines if you think he might react...run this by your vet of course. I always give my furkids Benadryl before their vaccines, just to be safe.

About halfway through the night he came out and was lying on his bed on the floor (usually he sleeps with us). It was an improvement. He did go out to potty (both) in the middle of the night and this morning...totally normal.

He was wandering around this morning while we were getting ready.

I think he was just traumatized. Boyfriend went home to check on him at lunch and haven't heard anything to worry about yet.

I also forgot to mention that my other yorkie, Maggie, was diagnosed with whipworms while we were at the vet They said it wasn't a bad case at all and she probably just got it. We just moved, so I'm thinking all the dogs at this apartment complex is where the issue originated. Max was negative. So, she took the medication while at the vet and we're going to wipe their feet off with their puppy wipes every time they come in from going potty.

Relieved to hear it wasn't a serious reaction. Good news on that. Maybe put up a notice on the bulletin board about the worms & maybe the neighbors will get their dogs checked & treated if needed, too. Hope all turns out well with the worming.

Anything out of the normal I should expect with a de-worming? I've had dogs my entire life but never had experience with worms.
