Many of you have already informed the OP that 12 weeks is the ideal and i'm sure she understands that, but there's nothing she can do about it now and her mind is made up. Why harp on and on about it and leave snarky rude comments. She's excited for her new puppy so let her have that. Give her helpful tips, support or at the very least answer her original question. I don't know what people get out of taking jabs at others. OP you can also do a search on here and you'll find a lot of threads about good and bad food for our babies :) |
I got my Yorkie when she was only 6weeks old and she's perfectly happy and healthy. She eats and drink well and her toilet manners are great! she is 9 weeks now. |

OP, to learn more about foods that are ok for your puppy, you might want to review the following website. It is written by a board certified vet nutritionist and has tons of valuable information. Welcome to Pet Diets |

I will not harp, but I did voice my opinion and don't see the harm in others doing it as well. To just ignore the red flags as we see them is not doing the OP or the pups in this world a favor. Sadly, this is why the cycle repeats itself...people really don't understand...or perhaps care. I don't know which but I do know that far too many animals are suffering because people choose to bury their heads in the sand. |

Yes, it would appear she made up her mind prior to anyone saying a word. The defensiveness tells me that she either does not understand, is taking it personal or she does not care. She does not seem to be open at all; so, I am no longer trying to talk her out of it, but I did voice my opinion so that others may be saved the heartache that often comes. Lately I have seen so many hypoglycemic pups in the S&I forum (and all were very young) and one even died. Kind of hard to not say a word if you really care about these pups. Let us all remember that there are many people reading these threads who do not post. It is always good to point all sides out. When the OP gets her puppy, I am quite sure everyone will share in her excitement....and not one person would EVER wish her or her puppy anything but good. :) |
LOL...this is all starting to become funny to me at this point. Life is short people, take a chill pill. It's my puppy, not yours, and I didn't start this thread asking anyone's opinion on my getting my puppy at 9 weeks vs. 12 weeks. I asked about foods he should stay away from. Do you hear yourself?? You sound weird, please stay off my threads if you intend on being so high on your own dead horse. It's been beaten...I understand the risks okay!! Just like a mother giving birth at 40, she knows the risks, she made her choice, now can someone be happy for me already. Sheesh, lol. Because I know I am. I can't wait to see Marley, hold him, and love him. He will have an awesome life:) Thanks to my supporters!! |
So happy for you. Can't wait to see pics. Please PM me if I can help in anyway. |

Perhaps so. |
Good luck with your new puppy. Like most of the posters said, and they're simply warning you from their own experiences and mine as well, that toy breed pups should for social and health reasons say with their Mommas until 12 weeks. Hypoglycemia is a common thing in these little guys and with the stress of coming to a new home, a 12 weeks pup that's been completely weened has a better shot at transitioning than one that's younger. Gizmo was taken from his Momma a 8 weeks, and we are still struggling with his social and separation anxiety to this day (he's 1 1/2). So my suggestion to you is if you plan on crating or having him be around other dogs, to do it as soon as he gets vaccinated. And with crating, using a hot water bottle and a clock with something with a heartbeat sound placed in his crate with him may soothe a distressed or panicked pup. |
